My issue with the RW Fenders is they all look the same so far as the Tele's and Strats they have released recently. And the full sanding job on the neck looks super fake.

Thanks be unto Fender for the more fake they look the less likely people will get ripped off on eBay which in my opinion has always been the REAL purpose the first guitar was ever "relic-ed".

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I've had an EPIPHANY (look it up)....I think I know why a guitarthusiast would want to fake wear and tear on a pristine guitar.....it's because, in this day and age, with 10,000 guitar owners per square mile, and a dwindling number of bars that will pay a decent wage for a band, none of ya'll are EVER gonna get a chance to truly wear that axe out honestly....you know that in your hearts, and it is a sad fact, and wanting to fake wear and tear on a new axe is a way to....what?.....impress girls? Girls don't give a shiite about musicians anymore.....to impress....GUYS? Why would you want to do THAT?

Do what you can to honestly use that guitar......there are too many Justin Timberlakes and Britney Spears out there faking EVERYTHING.....

1) duct tape some light grit sandpaper to your right forearm and start playing.
2) lightly bounce the guitar 7 or 8 times on a non carpeted floor to ding up the bottom edge.
3) get your fingers good and grubby then practice note bending in all your fav spots on the neck for at least 3 hours (reapply finger filth as necessary).

The most important is the nitro finish. Just make sure it's 100% nitro.

Ding!Ding!Ding! We have a winner folks. Step right up for your prize...

I agree that it's impossible to get the "Roadworn" look on a guitar that is encased in a thick modern polyester or polyurethane shell. You can chip away at the finish and try to pry it off in chunks, but it won't look like that's been played it for years. It will just look like a guitar that's been......well, had the finish chipped away. Modern poly finishes are TOUGH stuff.

...I blame it all on SRV. After seeing his worn down guitars everyone wants a fake worn guitar. I seriously doubt that even SRV's guitars was naturally worn. Of course I could be wrong, but I think he should have taken better care of his stuff. :D :D

SRV actually ate all the finish off of his Strat :P mmm..vintage nitro...mmm...smack..slurp

Seriously though, check out some live footage of SRV. The old thin nitro finish was no match for the abuse he put his Strat though.

I believe Rory Gallaghers Strat got left out under a hedge for several years to get that unique "beat up" look.

Personally I don't like the Relic'd look on guitars (nor do I like looking at dented cars with faded paint, or wrinkly women).

While it's true that if you play them and gig them they will gain a certain number of battle scars, I think that they should be kept to as few as possible.

A f*#^ked up guitar is just a f*#^ked up guitar to my way of thinking.

Looks like a tasty guitar SRV got there. That explains it, and I let him pass! :)

That pic of SRV is awesome, I made it my screen saver. Duct taping the sandpaper is clever but I don't know if I'm up to all that ha ha.
