Hi there!

This is my 'new' old Mexicacan Fender Telecaster from 1992. It has two-piece alder (???) body, top-loaded six-saddle bridge.

Please help me to identify this model. What is the name of the model, which actually wood does the body have? It's rather heavy, and too hard for poplar, wich as far as I know was widely used by Fender Mexico in the 1990s. Looks like alder, but I'm not sure. Who know, what is this?

Thanx!

Hi Peter,

I think in those times the only MIM Fender Tele model available was the Standard. So that would amke yours one of them.

I believe the body is an alder laminated top and back, probably with poplar in between.

As far as I can see, at the wear spots, there is no veneer. Has the Mexican factory always used the laminate?

In sunburst models, yes. Even today they still use it. I hope someone more familiar with an early 90s MIM Tele appears to share more info though.

In that era even American Fenders had poplar bodies with laminated tops. I had an American Deluxe Tele Plus ('89) which was an interesting guitar how it was configured almost like a Strat and it had a poplar body with Alder veneer.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

True. 90-93 US (non-CS models) Fenders were poplar with laminates.
