There are a couple posts on this but all the ones i've seen didnt really give much insite on how you could do this yourself. I have a highway one tele that i'd like to paint and set up just like pagey's dragon tele if there is anyone that has done this, could you help? (e.g what did you use for paint on the body, what did you use to paint the pick guard and such?) thank yu to anyone that can help

as long as you get a guide for painting an electric guitar normally i.e. if you were to build and paint or restore the paint on an old guitar - there are plenty of guides out there

you'll have to remove the paint on your guitar - there is a special liquid (i dont know what its called) that you need to use for this as in dont sand it down

then in painting you'll have to use something like nitro cellulosce paint and then lay down a base coat and then paint over it

the other thing you could do is try and email jeff beck it was his guitar before jimmy's! :) hope this is a little help sorry for the lack of real info~

I think a couple guys in the " The Gear Page" made copies of Jimmy's guitar. You could try to contact them.

By the way, no one knows exactly what kind of paint Jimmy used to paint his, maybe it could be acrylics or plastic paint, I believe, with some clear nitro on top - the guitar was refinished by a friend of his at some point in the 70s and the guitar was ruined (never appearing in public after this), so no one really inspected it.

What is known - the guitar was a late 59 or early 1960 Tele, so 21 frets, rosewood board, ash body, 3 saddle bridge etc. Find some good close-ups of the Dragon (Google!) and go for it.

My suggestion: Don't refinish your Hw1. Buy a new, unfinished body and start trying your painting skills on it. You may not get it right the first time.
