I own a MIM tele and have a problem with it. The high e and b string now is almost inaudible. The other four strings are all right. I switched to different pickup selections, tried it on different amps, tried different strings, same results. When strumming chords or playing lead lines, I can't really hear the thinner strings!

Anyone heard of this problem before? The guitar was fine (actually perfect) before. I didn't change the pickup height or mess with the wirings at all!

Really need some help. Not sure what the problem is. Thanks in advance.

This is a very strange problem, and I can't say I have a solution. I would have guessed that you had a magnet losing its polarity, but you have tried all of the switch positions with the same result.

The circuitry doesn't know what an e or b string is. All it knows is that some ferrous metal is moving above the magnets and cutting the magnetic lines of flux, producing a signal in the coil. So as long as you are using standard electric guitar strings everything should work.

If you simply lost all sound, that would be easier to track down. But the fact that the sound is simply weak is the strange part.

In the end you just might have to replace the whole harness.

We call that "easter egging," otherwise known as "repair by modular replacement."

Im curious to know if those 2 strings are also quieter when you play them unplugged? This could tell you if there is a mechanical issue instead of an electronic issue.

I've figured out what the problem was. Yes it was the strings. The B and high E string are not made out of a magnetic material(steel) but of another metal so the magnetic pickup coudn't 'pick up' the sound. Kinda silly really after i found that out haha.
