I'm considering buying a 2002 MIM Rosewood Tele. The neck has been replaced with an all rosewood Warmoth compound radius.

I've heard different things about the quality of these guitars and wanted to know if anyone had experience with them.

I have enough $$ to buy an American Tele as well, but as a Harrison fan I think the Rosewood would be pretty cool. I can get a Japanese "All Rose" too but I feel that for that money I could buy an American, and the MIM is about $500 cheaper on the used market than the MIJ.

MIM "Harrison-model" all-rosewood? I've never seen those before, only the Japanese and USA!

A break for some researching :)

I am not aware of a MIM "all Rosewood" Tele model. My undersatnding is that the MIMs are pretty much standard MIM Teles with a Rosewood veneered body.

These are comparable with the current "TL-Rose" being made in Japan, as they also are a Rosewood veneered body.

The MIJ/CIJ "all Rosewood" Teles are the earlier Japanese versions, which were made sporadically up to 1997 (as I understand it). These go for in excess of US$2000 depending on condition.

They were only made in one year, 2002. They do exist. There are reviews for them on Harmony Central. I think that they might have come with maple necks and rosewood fretboards, but this guy has replaced it with an all rosewood neck.

Please link the reviews you are referring to.

The reviews I found clearly mention that MIM Rosewoods in 2002/3 are veneer bodies.

I remember a recent MIM model that was just like a Classic Series 60s Tele but with some dark wood top veneer. I think it was either the "Koa Telecaster" or "Palo Escrito Telecaster", not sure which. It had a little Harrison-vibe 8)

Ahh...I think you're right. So the MIM rosewood teles are just veneers? What is it, like an alder body with a thin layer of rosewood? Definitely doesn't cut it for me. If this is the case I will pass after all.

Anybody have a general tele recommendation?

Sorry to rain on you parade...but I am a Rosewood Tele fanatic and if there was something I didn't know about, well I'd have to know more!

Unfortunately, my photo hosting service is down at the moment. When it's back up, I'll post some photos of a MIM Rosewood.

That's one pretty guitar,is that solid rosewood, veneer or a rosewood cap?BTW a friend of mine had a '69 Rosewood Tele years ago, against the advice and pleading of many others he routed the neck pup for a humbucker(luckily he at least kept the original)wasn't really pleased with the sound after all and endedup trading it a few years ago with a guy in N.Y. for a sitar.

As indicated above, the MIM Rosewood special only came in a Rosewood Veneer over alder body. They still look pretty nice of course!
