I would think that if you took a beat-up old Hondo guitar, gutted it and replaced all of the important components, and did a professional set-up on everything, you would wind up with a pretty darn good guitar.

If I were playing at a very high level and wanted to show something unusual, I think I could imagine doing something like that.

Jeff Healey used a Squier and he made that sound pretty good.

While it is true that all Fender guitars are worthy instruments, a necessary part of the equation is also the percieved value to the customer. Lets be honest, a Chevy Caprice will get you where you are going just as well as a Dodge R/T Challenger but which is the cooler ride?

I haven't met a player yet who wouldn't like to own a USA made Fender (or a Gibson instead of an Epiphone). I own MIA, MIM, MIJ and MIK guitars. All of them get played and all sound good. Do I prefer my MIA Strats and Tele . . . yes I do, but the others are just as much fun to play.

Similarly, ask a guy who paid huge bucks for a Mesa, or Egnater amp and they will swear your non-boutique amp is substandard (even if he's only playing the high dollar rig in his bedroom, basement, at Church, or in some putzy bar band).

People buy what they like and what makes them happy. I remember taking all kinds of crap in the early 80's for still playing a Fender Strat instead of switching to a Charvel or a Kramer. I've still got that old Strat and it's still the bomb. Go with what makes you happy and you can't go wrong.

I agree. I have a Squier strat that I love to play. I would say buy what plays well for you and what you can afford.

airbornestrat... I think you need to chill a little. If what you're saying is stop the debate (and by implication, any debate someone doesn't approve of) then we might as well shut the Forum down.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but if you don't like a subject on the Forum, either vent and enjoy the opportunity to get it off your chest, or don't get involved.

Actually, there's an amusing irony in the fact that you've started yet another thread on the subject....

LOL Slow, if you think I would take offense to you posting what you have no worries my brother. It is all good!! At the time I had a bad day and this one person was ragging on a kid who was really proud of his MIM strat..LOL. I love this forum and believe me I have had my eyes opened in good ways here! The only time I will get pissed is if you accuse me of being a LP player...had one once...hated it because it just played sooo mushy..LOL Like their sound but they just ain't for me.

What mthorn00 said. Play what makes you happy. And never bash a person for playing what they play, because it's what makes them happy, too.

I agree with the Les paul idea. I have an Epiphone les paul that i really never liked . It is what i am selling to buy a Tele. I would play it for a while and always went back to my strat. The guitar is too heavy for one thing.

Nice one ABS... had a few – couldn't agree more.

Am I allowed to add the 335 to that? Love the look of them, love the sound of them, but when I hold one I feel 25 years older! I think it might be the 'jazz position' that gets me... maybe I should try one standing up!
