Hey there, I put the Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II Tele pups in my MIJ Tele a couple of years back. They sound just fine, but I think I need pups that are more for rock music. I'm not sure if the Alnico Pro II's are doing it for rock tones. Any suggestions? And yes, I can't afford a $300 set of pups unfortunately.

I´m not exactly what kind of rock you play. What kind of tone you have in mind? Can you mention some bands/guitarrists you find inspirational?

I am just looking for a classic rock and blues-rock tone. Stones and Black Crowes are what I am thinking for Tele tones.

I dig my Seymour Broadcaster bridge pickup - very very versatily. I think its has a tad more output than the Alnico II, that I found to sound more soft and dark (I tried it only in those Lite Ash Teles). The Broadcaster has that gutsy mid-range and cuts through the mix better (more stingy highs, but no ice-pick at all). A great take for blues and classic rock - does country very well, but with more compressed highs and more output than the 60s-style pickups. I hope this helps!

Are you sure it's a problem with the pickups? After all, Slash has Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pro on his Gibsons..

Slash has the Alnico II humbuckers in all of his Les Pauls, but I think FadingCaptain is talking about the Seymour Alnico II single coils for Tele :D or no?

KInman makes great Telecaster pickups. Both the Zero Hum and the Broadcaster one by them are great. Very pricey, but worth it based on what I have seen and heard from them.

I would suggest the Seymour Duncan STL-1 vintage 54 or the STL-1b broadcaster I have both in my teles and get some great tones out of it.

I'm not really sure whether we're talking about humbuckers or single-coils here. You mentioned Keith Richards' Tele tone which is a neck humbucker in a Tele. Most of his have PAFs in them, but unless your willing to drop serious coin for a pickup, you're better served buying a new Gibson equivalent.

I've got a Seymour Duncan STL1b in my Tele and it's a very versatile pickup.

Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. I have them in my Telecaster and they absolutely kick butt.

Keff uses the bridge pickup most of the time doesn't he? :?

Neck bucker or P90 + bridge single coil is a great combination.

Chris Robinson from the BC uses an Esquire most of times, with a single coil pu.

Seymour duncan "little 59" is a small humbucker that has thicker sound and higher output.

I was told that Fender makes the best single coil pickups and Seymour Duncan makes the best humbuckers. That said, Fender makes some very nice, higher output single coils.

From higher to lower outout, check out:

SCN Tele set
Vintage Noiseless Tele set
Texas Specials Tele set (Custom Shop)
No Caster Tele set (Custom Shop)
Original Vintage Tele set
