Hello,

i've just bought a used Fender Mexico Telecaster. The owner told me the serial number before I bought this guitar. the SN is MN513046.

Now I've seen today, that this is a Telecaster without a string thru body and I'm asking myself if Fender produces/if Fender has ever produced Telecasters without a String Thru Body.

At least I'm not sure about, if the owner build this guitar, using a cheap body and a fender mexico neck with the Serial number.

So may you help me. Has Fender ever produced Telecasters WITHOUT String-thru?

Thanks.

Michael

Yes, up until 1998 MIM Standard Telecasters had top-loader bridges with six barrel saddles. I believe the bridge plate bolted to the body with three screws.

Your serial number starting with MN5 dates your guitar to 1995 approximately (MN5 = Mexico Ninety 5).

Body color should be black, white, brown sunburst, candy apple red, or lake placid blue if I remember my mid-90s color offerings on the Standard Tele correctly.

And if you are worried that a top loader (non-string thru) doesn't sound or perform as good as a string thru model, listen to Jim Campilongo. He plays a top loader and KILLS it every time. Good luck with the Tele!!

thank you all for your fast and helpful response. I was nearly shocked to see, that it has a toploader bridge, because my first idea was, this guitar could be a Fender fake. I've never seen or heard about a Fender Tele without a string thru body. But at least, I'm learning something every day.

But the guitar really sounds nice, i've got beautiful sounding hard stroked crunchy chords out of my vox amplug, when I play clean, i can really get an amazing country sound. Just tried to play the first seconds of the folsom prison blues by Johnny Cash and it's a country machine ;-)

I will play the Tele next week in front of my bigger amp :-)
And then I will also try little distortion and lead sounds.

Here's one picture of the guitar:

And now, as a precaution, sorry for my bad english :-)

Never worry about your English here. If people don't understand, they'll ask for clarification. In your case, I had no idea you weren't a native speaker of English. Also, Mensch, ärgere dich nicht! Dein Englisch ist perfekt! 8)
