I have a HW1 Tele with a grease bucket wiring scheme. What the heck is it? Is it good?

Well, what do you think? Does it sound good to you when you're playing it?

I dont have a Tele with the grease bucket tone wiring, but I have it on my Highway Strat. It's a little bit of extra circuitry, designed to stop the bass frequencies dominating when you turn down the tone control. A slightly more smart treble bleed system basically.

I suspect that it thins out the sound too much - I'm actually thinking about removing it from my guitar all together.

I usually never turn down the tone so maybe I'll check it out. I think the Highway one Tele sounds awesome and don't plan on any changes. I'm satisfied with my guitar.

I see the $4400 Fender Custom Shop Telecaster Pro Relic comes with the greasebucket. So I think you will continue to see it in the future on higher end Teles. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-Cust ... 1471781.gc

I have one on my Cabronita Especial 1
The idea is that when you turn down the tone knob it also usually turn down the global volume.
With the greasebucket whatever position of your tone knob, the guitar delivers the same level of volume.
I've never used the tone knob so often before.
Another great idea from Fender.

+1 It took me a short while to get used to it because I used to leave the tone pots wide open, but it works great!

Greasebuckets are (IMO) a great passive tone control. I've installed them on all my Fenders and even on a humbucker guitar of mine along with a treble bleeder circuit on the volume control.

Here's a mod I like to do on my Strats: The Seven Sound Mod which apart from some extra pup combinations (N+B and N+M+B) on a push/pull pot includes greasebucket tone controls and treble bleeder.

This mod allows the position 1, 3 and 5 to maintain the single pup combinations and have the tone control 1 functional in position 1, 2 and 3 and tone control 2 in position 4 and 5 regardless of the position of the push/pull.

Great working tone controls along with no loss in treble when turning the volume down.

Nikki,

How do you like your Baja Tele? I have a standard Tele upgraded w/ a Seymour Duncan pup at the bridge and a stock Deluxe Nashville Tele.

I'm GASing for another Tele and am looking at either a Classic Series '72 Thinline, a Classic Series -60s w/ a Bigsby or the Baja Tele. I've played the Bigsby and have fun w/ it, but I haven't been around the Thinline or the Baja.

Any suggestions?

Rick
