Hey Guys.

I've compared the specs of the American Tele and the Highway One Tele (upgrade) and apart from the slightly bigger frets on the Highway One and the slightly hotter pickups, there doesn't appear to be much else that's different. And yet in the UK there is about £250 difference between them.

They're both made in the US right?

So what is the difference that justifies the difference in price?

Steve

Have you been down to a dealer to look at one? I went the other day looking for a Strat and ended up finding a used 2006 Highway 1 Tele in pristine condition for under five hundred US dollars at one of their sister stores. I looked at the exact same one hanging on the wall at the store and said "no way" but played a different color and then switched from the Strat to the Tele as it fit my hands and fingers better. The color I did not care for was over come by the price. Now I am waiting for it to come in while I decide what amp I want. Looks like the decision thing is just getting warmed up.
One thing that adds cost on the other one is the shiny finish. All shiny finishes take labor to achieve.

Well, they didn't spend much money on the paint job on the higway 1. That low-gloss rubbish looks awful!

I debated between the american standard and the highway one for quite awhile, in the end I chose the highway one and couldn't be happier with it. Sounds great, and the neck feels just as good to play on as my Am Deluxe Strat.

There really isn't much difference between the 2, the highway has 70's style PU a cheaper finish, give it a few years with regular play, and it will look like a relic.

The question I asked myself was do I want a little quieter (less hum) and more durable finish, for more money, or the more vintage sound and look (which I love)

I went with the honey blond highway one, here is a pic

THE FINISH IS ALOT DIFFERENT, MORE OF A SATIN ON THE HW1, STILL LOOKS NICE THOUGH, NOT AS DURABLE. THE AMERICAN SERIES HAS A MORE BROKEN IN FEELING NECK, HAND ROLLED EDGES AS THE SPEC'S READ. DIFFERENT PUP'S ALSO

I bought a Highway One about 6 months ago, the only thing I can add to what has already been said is that the bridge on the HW1 is vintage/old sytle while the AM series Tele have the newer style bridge. I saved about $300 from my local shop going with the HW1.
