My other projects (two Strats) left me with a neck left over. Or if you look at it the other way; a body short...

This has to be remedied, and I got the idea of turning it into a Telecaster since I lack Tele's. It will be a hybrid, at Strat neck and a Tele body.

The quest of gathering parts have just begun and a body was purchased from the bay. A Callaham Vintage-T bridge with vintage enhanced brass saddles was ordered last week, and as soon as it's delivered I will string it up and check the neck.

The body is a Candy Apple Red 2009 Fender Standard Tele body. The route for the neck pickup is large and that got me thinking of getting a P90 pup for the neck position and a more normal Tele bridge pup. I'm currently considering some Seymour Duncan pups; the SP90-2 neck pickup and the quarter pounder Tele bridge pickup.

I've uploaded some pictures at my guitar site myfolder.se/myspace/, and I will continue adding to it as the project proceeds..

The planning stages are so much fun....some people do crossword puzzles  Looking forward to watching this project progress!

Yes, the planning is the fun part.

I also like the hands on aspect. I did the refretting last weekend and it was so much fun I could rip them of just to do it all again. :D

I have some other (household) projects to take care of just now which gives me a couple of weeks to let this project grow...

The Callaham bridge arrived yesterday. Had the guitar stringed up for checking the action.

No electronics though, still trying to figure out which pickups to buy.

New pictures is uploaded to my guitar site.

Great looking guitar, nice job. How about Alnico 5s and Gold Tone hardware sitting on a White Pearl finished pick guard ?

Cheers,
John.E

Thanks John.E

I've got that white pearl pickguard on my Dakota Red '50s Classic Stratocaster. It's awesome. So for this build I'm going to do something different and more simple. I've decided to get an all black 1-ply beveled pickguard. It really goes nice with the Candy Apple Red color.

For the pickups I'm gonna go noiseless. When recording in my basement there's some sources of hum; florescent lights and computer screens. The rest of my non humbucker guitars and my Jazz Bass had all ended up with noiseless pup's and copper shielding which keep them silent hum-wise.

My options so far is:
- A set of Fender Vintage Noiseless
- or a set of Seymour Duncan vintage stacked Tele
- or a set of Lace Tele's (T-150/TN-100)
- or go "Hot Rod" with a SD mini-bucker and a matching bridge pickup (noiseless)

Right now I'm leaning towards the Seymour Duncan set. But this can change...

Lace purples or hot golds...or wait...how about a P-90 in neck...or maybe a twisted Tele pup....rumpels, don mare, kinmans...decisions, decisions.

Good luck, Goran!

Hmm... Yes P90's... Well, I think (?) I have decided to go more traditional since it's my first Tele...

Goran is looking for pickup suggestions for his Tele project. He wants a good blues sound, but with the ability to rock out as well.

What say you?

Thanks for bumping this thread Mike! :D

Yes, I'm about to order the remaining parts soon, hopefully next week. Been very ambivalent on which pickups to get, but I think I have decided somewhat now. Have had ideas of P90's and mini humbuckers. But my main demand now are that they need to be noiseless and if possible with a traditional look.

Fender
Right now I'm leaning towards the Fender Vintage Noiseless set. For some reason there's not much info on that set on the Internet, and I have asked for opinions on numerous forums but got very few answers. Found a clip on YouTube that sounded nice. I have two sets of the Fender Hot Noiseless for Strat which I love.

Seymour Duncan
My other choice was the Seymour Duncan Vintage Stacked set but have been advised against on the TDPRI forum by a member who's at the moment exchanging them for Fender Vintage Noiseless set. The outcome is yet to see. On another forum these pups are the best a man can get...

DiMarzio
Then there's the DiMarzio T7 (?) on one forum they all speak very highly on those, but I failed to grasp what sound they have. And they do not look right to me...

Lace Sensors
The same can be said for the Lace TN-100/T-150 set, but at least the neck pickups looks traditional. The T-150 is a hot bridge pup variant, there's also the T-100 but I tend to prefer hotter bridge pups. Personally I like the Lace Hot Noiseless Strat set alot, my #1 Strat have a 13.2k set installed, but I know nothing about the mentioned Tele set. Nobody else seem to either; when asking about them I get answers regarding the Strat sets I've actually got no direct answers about the Tele set.

So my two top candidates are the:
- The Fender Vintage Noiseless Tele set
- The Lace TN-100/T-150 Tele set

Help... Opinions... Please... :D

/Goran

go with the VN set. I had a set in my Copper '52RI for a short period of time, and LOVED them! the neck pickup sounded like a FCS'69 Strat pickup! very sweet. I had to remove them and put the originals back in due to a problem with the wiring, but I loved them while I had them!

Cool clips, you're missing the
D inverted chord on "Alright Now"

--0-0------------------------|--5----------------|---------------------|
--3-3--3-3----3-3--3-3-----|--5----------------|--5-------------3----|
--0-0--2-2----0-0--2-2-----|--2----------------|--2-------------2----|
--4-4--4-4----4-4--4-4-----|--2----------------|--2-------------4----|
------------------------0--|--0----------------|--0----------0-------|

Hope this helps!

I've just made up my mind and ordered a Fender Vintage Noiseless set along with a pickguard, control plate, pots, knobs and a 4 position switch. Now I just have to sit down and wait for delivery, about 3 to 5 days.

:D

Thanks for the input.

There's been a few from Europe complaining about how hard it is to get Fender "stuff" in the Strat forum.

Is the 3-5 days from USA to Sweden?
