I am putting together a Semi-Hollow body Tele. I am going to change out the pickups and I want to replace them. I am mostly concerned with the neck pickup, since that is the one I'll be playing through the most. However, there seems to be little or no variation between the various tele neck pickups, and the difference appears to be in the bridge pickups. The different pickups I have found available on the internet are Fender Original Vintage Tele® Pickups, Fender Vintage "Noiseless" Tele® Pickups, Fender '51 Nocaster® Pickups, and the Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups. I am going for an Acoustic-Electric Bluesy Tele sound, if that makes any sense at all. Could you give your opinion on which of these pickups, or even a different pickup, that I should purchase? Thanks.

The Nocaster is a little more bright and "strat-like" than standard tele neck pickups. Excelent pickup. They use a nickel silver cover and a taller bobbin to achieve this sound. Very transparent.

The Texas is too muddy IMO. Very middy. The same for the Tex-Mex.

I never played one but seems the Original Vintage (alnico III) is quite good. Also the neck pickup in the AV62. (alnico V). I can only tell by many sound samples though.

Mine has a original "Classic Series" on the neck. Traditional Tele sounding, compressed, but cuts through well for solos.

There's one I liked quite a lot by DiMarzio, called "Area T neck". Its a noiseless pickup so some people might turn their heads right away, but sounded great to me.

You should check also the sound samples in Seymour Duncan, Budz, Rumpelstiltskin and Klein websites... these last 3 are all hand-made, scatter-wound and low priced

I just discovered a website of a company that makes wooden pickups for a tele. The company is Reed James Custom Pickups. They cost about $200, which is fine because I think the pickup is the most important aspect of my project. Anybody ever heard of this or have any opinion on the pickups?

His custom woodbuckers are nice, but as you said, expensive!
