So, this afternoon I was looking to kill time and stopped in one of the local music stores. While browsing I came across an FSR Telecaster, just like the one in this link:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Ash-Standard-Tele?sku=517885

I have to tell you, this guitar felt GREAT! It was so much fun to play. So much so that I was going to buy it on the spot. Then, I came to my senses and realized that I have a wonderful MIA Tele at home. Was this a mistake? Should I have gotten this FSR?

Does anyone have one of these FSR's? If so, I'd like to hear your opinion of these. Did I just find an exceptional piece or are they really outstanding guitars? I think that if I buy this FSR it will dethrown my MAI as my favorite guitar!

While the pickups on that guitar may not be as great as your MIA one, there is infinite potential in that guitar. An ash tele for $500 isn't bad at all. It also has (what I and many others think) is the best bridge for a tele (6 saddle instead of 3). Just maybe upgrade the bridge pickup and you're good to go.

I've seen these special runs before. Great bang for the buck and some nice features, especially the vintage tuners!

Check out Arlen Roth's excellent book, "Masters Of He Telecaster" (with 2 CDs).

He has like 40, so 2 is not really pushing it, if you dig the instrument.

Hello Es11,

Well a bit of GAS is pretty natural thing around here.
I enjoy buying, playing, studying, and selling.
I could have a lot worse habits, so GAS ain't bad. :D

Those ash bodied mexicans are a really nice instrument.
I'd grab one if the stars were right.

Cheers.

Thanks Mr. Bill. I've decided to buy it. It doesn't happen all that often that I pick up a guitar and it just feels perfect so I need to take advantage of the situation.

Do you have one of these FSR's?

Hello Es11,

No, I've never owned one but when they're
on the wall at the superstore I'll give em a strum.
They look and play great, {to me}. Maybe one day.
Jonesing for a new tele is nothing new in this house,
especially since my son is hittin the axe again.

Cheers.

Its something more than GAS, as I think my first Tele possessed me, and the demon didn't leave until I had about 10 Teles.... :D

One of my jamming partners got one

Nice guitar. His needed the bridge pickup height adjusted. And he should put some 10s on when the 9s wear out to get fatter tone.

Neck pickup is real nice. But you can always change/upgrade pickups down the road to your liking.

I really like the Fender Custom Shop '51 Nocaster pickups--not too expensive and they really sound great

Thanks for the feedback, Rxtele. I agree with you on swapping out the strings. 9's are just too light and 10's seem to have a more well-rounded sound.
