Maybe 10+ years ago, Fender came out with a reasonably priced California/Baja Telecaster that had a humbucker at the neck. I remember one of the colors being somewhat orange.
Can anybody here tell me more about this guitar?
I've always wanted one but don't know it's official name?
Thanks!
HSG

Tex-Mex Tele, later called the California Series Fat Tele. 5-way switch to coil tap the humbucker.

That "orange" color was Fiesta Red. They came in a few other colors too; I know brown sunburst was one. They also had the 6-saddle vintage-style bridge, if I remember correctly.

Thanks, George!
I could swear it had a California/Baja kind of name, though....
Designed in California, built in Mexico or parts made in Mexico but assembled in California.....American parts but assembled in Mexico.....something like that.

You're welcome! I love digging up info on older (but not vintage) Teles. I still have a stack of '90s Fender Frontline catalogs if you can't find what you need.

Those California guitars were cool - sort of the mid-priced option between the MIM Standards and the American Standard/American Series of their time.

I'd say the MIM Deluxe Series and the Highway Ones have filled that gap these days, from a price/marketing standpoint, but right off the top of my head I can't think of a relatively inexpensive Telecaster that comes with a humbucker in the neck, nor a Strat pickup in the neck, which the California Series came with if you didn't want the humbucker version.
