What kind of sounds can I get out of a telecaster using a fuzz pedal? Could I get some early Led-Zeppelin studio tones, like in Whole Lotta Love?

Not too far from a Strat. From my experience, the neck pickup sounds deeper and more "woman tone-ish" and the bridge pickup a little more gainy and with a more cutting top end (if the tone is wide open) than your average strat when used with fuzz.

If you put any kind of distortion -- even mild valve saturation -- on a Telecaster's bridge pickup, it will cut through the mix like nothing else. The trick is in manipulating the tone knob: you want to kill the icepick treble, but retain the cutting nature of the pickup.

Should be able to. Page used a tele on the first album, and some of the second. 8) Mike

Once I thought for a while that he used the Tele for the rhythm in Whole Lotta Love and maybe something in Heartbreaker, but I don't think actually there's any Tele in Zepellin's II album :?

The solo in Stairway to Heaven is done with a Telecaster. But after having a hit album (LZ1), he could afford a Gibson or Two (EDS-1275).

One thing I like to do, when trying out electric guitars, is to turn the volume control(s) all the way up, and the tone control(s) all the way down. If I can dig the resulting fuzz tone, I really like that guitar. Granted, even if I don't like the resulting fuzz tone, I still like some guitars for different playability or tonal reasons.

Yep I knew that one. But except from Stairway´s solo, theres no Tele in II, III or IV as far as I know.

He got the EDS only after recording "IV". That´s when Page realized he wouldn´t be able to switch from a 12-strings to a 6-strings in the middle of the song.

It depends on which 'fuzz' pedal you use. Telecasters seem to work well with most, but the ones with germanium transistors (i.e. Fuzz Face, Big Muff) usually give you a lot of crunch, but clarity with power chords.
