Is there anybody out there who uses a Telecaster for classic '70s rock? (Primarily Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, but also a little Brian Adams, Eagles, and others) If so, how does it work for you?

There's nothing that can't be played in any guitar. A lot will depend on the amplifier and pedals you use, if the rig is versatile enough to provide you decent cleans, slightly overdriven and more distorted tones.

A Tele thru the right amp with the right settings, and maybe a pedal can sound pretty close to let's say, a SG if you want. Now, a SG sounding like a Tele, I don't really believe it can be achieved.

This is me playing a Classic Series 60s Tele on a Marshall (all song on the neck pickup):

overdrive pedal added on the solo.

(Absolutely crappy live recording... but you can kinda get the idea. I hope)

You can play anything on a Tele!

My band plays rock, and the occasional country or pop song. With only a few exceptions, my Tele is used on every song!

Yeah, of course you can play 70' classic rock on a tele. The raw Led Zeppelin-sound, from the first albums, was created on a Tele.

Syd Barrett played a Telecaster, during Pink Floyd's early years. He's also used a Danelectro (don't know which model, though), but for what they were creating, at the time, I don't really notice any tonal differences.

He used a black Dano 59 DC, just like Jimmy Page. I have all the early Pink Floyd CDs, and a "Syd Barrett best of" but can't tell in which songs he used the Esquire-Telecaster or Danelectro

Teles were used in Led Zeppelin, Yardbirds, Steely Dan (esp. in the '70s), John Cougar Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen. And all of them at least played in the '70's or the '60s.

I use it in gospel music, which is an amalgam of blues, jazz, R&B, country, and contemporary music.

DEFINITELY!

I learned "The Girl I love She Got Lontg Black Wavy Hair" (all but the solo) :D this weekend on a Tele and it sounded great. Of course you may need some effects for the Zeppelin stuff but a TELECASTER can play anything!

I put the P-rails in my Telecaster and it's awesome sounding. But Jimmy Page used a classic stock Tele for the solo on Stairway To Heaven. Don't forget it's the amp that counts too.

Does anyone think Telecasters aren't great? Everyone likes them. I play my Telecaster all the time. Rock on. Enjoy. :)

Does anyone have a engraved Fender Tele backplate for sale cheap?
