That manual PDF has the needed instructions for stringing a guitar with locking tuners.

I have them on my strat and once you get the hang of them they save soooo much time changing strings, as well as eliminating slippage in the tuners due to improper string wrapping.

The simple version:

Turn the pegs until the holes are in the positions shown in the picture in that manual.

Loosen the thumbscrew at the back of the tuner, thread the string through and pull tight, tighten screw, tune to pitch. The locking tuners should have less than a full wrap around the tuning peg (might get close to one wrap on the first string, that's ok). The thumbscrew needs to be tight! But remember to slack off tension before loosening the thumbscrew when removing strings!

thanks so much, but these are just staggered non-locking machines. i have the locking ones on my strat, too. those are nice. but i just can't wrap my mind (or my strings) around the ones on my tele!

OOPs... I thought you were asking about the staggered locking tuners!

I have the staggered tuners on my Tele, you just string them up like normal tuners...unless you are used to the older capstan (slotted) type tuners. You should have about 2 wraps on the tuning pegs, really don't need anymore than that.

My trick is to use 4 fingers width of slack under the 3 bass strings at the 12th fret, and 3 fingers slack under the treble strings at the 12th fret. That should give you about 2 wraps for each string.

The trick to restringing guitars is to have neither too many nor too few wraps on the post. Keep in mind that you'll want a few more wraps for the lighter gauge strings, and a few less for the heavy gauge strings. I re-string my guitars so frequently that I can now do it in 10 minutes or so with near-perfect accuracy. Honestly, it's worth practicing.

My "trick" is to thread the string through the bridge, pull it tight, and feed it through the hole on the tuning peg. After pulling it tight again -- or at least so there's no gaping slack in the string -- I grab it at the nut with my right hand while my left holds it tight. Then I pull it back towards the bridge about the length of one fret. Then it's time to wind: this is manifestly easier if you keep some tension on the string so it won't slip and simultaneously bend the loose end up and around the post into a "ghost" wrap. That probably makes no sense to anyone but me, but keep trying!
