I've been searching for that country twang and found it on the Tele and no other guitar (Haven't checked out G&L ASAT yet)

My question is that I've heard Hughie Thomasson of the Outlaws had a Tele where he, apparently, reversed wired the bridge pickup to get an extra twang.

Is this something that used to be done to get that twang sound or am I getting the story mixed up and they did something else to the pickups?

Thanks

you can reverse the polarity of th e lead or rythmn PU to get more "quack " out of the middle
to get THE tele sound you need to get the bridge PU as close to the strings as possible .
At LEAST1/16 from the string
