I was given a Telecaster deluxe with b-bender. What is the suggested best string set to use? Thank you.

I have always used Ernie Ball .11s on my electric guitars and they sound great. Can't go wrong with EB!

Fender sells that guitar with 10-46s, which you can readily see for yourself by checking out the specifications at this web site. So that's what the manufacturer recommends.

If you use 11s you're going to find other bends, especially the ones used in country music, to be much more difficult. In particular, a full step bend from A to B at the second fret on the G string is going to be tough. A lot of country music and rock is in the key of G.

I know that the conventional wisdom is to try to work your way toward heavier strings because they supposedly sound better. But be advised that some superb guitarists go light. The best example is James Burton, the legendary Telecaster wizard. He uses the following strings:

9-10-12-28-32-38

A stock set of 9s includes:

9-11-16-28-32-42

So you can see that his second, third, and sixth string are lighter than stock. It's no coincidence that those are the three strings that get the most bending in country music and rockabilly. That's how I string my Telecaster and I like the result. If it's good enough for James, it's good enough for me.

So if I had a b-bender I would string it like Burton, except I'd beef up the B string, since the b-bender solves that problem.
