I'm new to electrics. I have a Tele and a Blues Jr. and an Amp Champ.

I can't turn up the volume very loud because I live in an apartment, but I want to get the best tube sound possible at the lowest level.

Should I turn up the volume on my amp, and turn down the volume on my Tele; or should I turn down the amp volume and have my Tele master volume on full to get the best sound?

Thanks in advance for you thoughts and feedback!

Go buy a compressor.
That way you can turn the volume to a decent level and still get great tone.
You might also try an attenuator.

Check out ebay with a search "attenuator amp".

Thanks for the help!

The ebay link you provide looks great, but it won't work with a combo amp from the description provided.

I thought attenuators can adversely shorten the life of your tube amp?

I don't know where you got the idea that these are not usable for a tube
amp. The peavey classic 30 is all tube, so are the deluxe, the black heart, etc.
They won't shorten your tube life anymore than running your amp at the volumes that you are looking for without the attenuator.
They work as a volume control. Higher volumes won't have that much of a greater strain on your tubes than lower volumes.

Go on ebay and do the search. I am pretty sure you will find one that works.

I have combo amps. Here's the ebay description of the item you provided:

"JUST SIMPLY PLUG THE LITTLE SUCKER BETWEEN YOUR HEAD AND YOUR SPEAKER ENCLOSURE."

Do you have any specific attenuators in mind by brand name that would work with combo amps?

Check this one out.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Tonesonics-master-v ... 286.c0.m14

this can be used on your pedal board.

I'll try to find some more.

What they mean by this is Attenuators go between the amp output and the speaker cab...no FX Loop required.

Take the line out from your amp, plug into the line in on the pedal, then plug a line out of the pedal to the speaker.

I don't personally own the Little Sucker because I use the omnisonic which specifically requires an efx loop.

testimony:
I got this in the mail today and I have to say right off the bat that im very pleased with it! It does exactly what it says it in the sales description. Allows you to run your amp cranked and have that great overdriven tone, but at lower volumes. I ran this though my blackheart little giant and immediately set all the amps dials to 10 to test it out and was very happy to find that I could indeed get those hot tube maxed out tones at bedroom volume! If anyone has a
little giant of valve jr and face the dilemma of wanting max volume tone at low decibels this is worth a look! Heres an eBay link. For 60 bucks you cant beat it!

Be sure to check out the ebay sites, they explain how these work.

I'm not sure if that second one is what I'm looking for... is there a problem with just turning up the amp volume and turning down the volume knob on the guitar?

There is nothing wrong with it, but you aren't going to get the same tone as if both are full on.
The attenuator is basically a volume control between the amp and the speaker. It allows the full texture and tone from the amp to be fed to the speaker but it is not as loud.
I've given you every option you really have to work with. If these don't work then you just have to wing it. All the best.-g
