I was at a local music store today and I decided to play a Highway 1 Tele. WOW! This is the guitar for me. I picked it up, played a G chord, and I knew I loved it. Hands down. Share how you came to love your Tele like I did. Amazing feel, sound and overall greatness.

My first electric was a Tele copy, a particularlly bad copy as it happens. It put me right off Tele's, I was very naieve in those days (guitar wise). I got a MIM Strat, and was blown away. I ordered the Gilmour Strat last year, when I went in to pay for it, I fell for a 52 RI Tele in butterscotch. I hooked her up, and jammed out for about 30 mins. My eye was caught by a Tele Deluxe, the colour, the contours, everything about this guitar got to me. I gave the 52 back, and hooked up the deluxe. No words can convey how I felt with this baby in my arms, my next words were.... " I'll take it"

On taking the deluxe in for her first set up, I saw a CIJ Tele in the tech's workshop. Wowsa!!! I asked the tech about it, he informed me they just happened to have another one in the back, for sale. As Mutley would say.... Gimme Gimme Gimme  They brought this red beauty out from the storeroom, and I plugged her in. This is the best Tele I have ever played, and that's saying something. I've yet to find a more comfortable guitar, or a better sounding one. Not that I'm looking  I've banned myself from entering guitar stores for the foreseeable future :(

HWY1 Teles are especially fantastic. Great value for the money. I love the jumbo frets, and the Alnico III pups can go twangy to hard rock with a roll of the volume knob.

'Had looked at Teles kinda as a maybe someday guitar for a long time, no outrageous oo-oo-gotta-have appeal.

Then, 'came home from vacation in mid '00 with some unspent cash and saw a natural ash / maple board American Standard on then-closeout (being replaced by American Series).

Nice instrument and price was right, 'brought it home and it's been a "casual" guitar ever since. She is tho often moody when not played for a piece; takes a couple of days before "willing, flowing" music comes out of her.

I traded a 60s Fender Duosonic for a '68 Tele ( wish I still had it ) but I played the heck out of that guitar for several years before I bought a Strat.

They are both great sounding guitars!

The Tele is just easier to play than a Strat... what's up with that?

I have always thought the same. I have always been drawn to strats due to its status as a benchmark in the industry, however the tele is so comfortable...

Though it seems like the Strat is being replaced by the Tele nowadays. I had the same way of thinking before I bought my Tele and now that I have two I don't think I'll buy a Strat. Not saying I'll never buy one but I just can't see one in the near future.

Back when I first got an electric guitar I bought a Strat as I just couldn't come to terms with a Tele. I tried countless ones but just never felt comfortable with them. I still loved the shape and lusted after one for years while faithfully playing my strat. Then I sold my Strat and after a couple of years in the wilderness decided to try a Tele again. This time it worked! And I've never looked backed. Absolutely love it.

And yeah. Whenever I watch music videos or live performances of guitar based bands, I seem to see a lot more Teles than anything else these days. Especially the Deluxes.

Still think I'll need to get a Strat again one day..

agree with you 100000% and the funny thing is, when I first started looking at guitars I didn't like the Tele at all. I was hooked on the look of a Les Paul and the feel of a Strat. But once I started PLAYING Tele's, yeah i found out it is THE guitar for me.

I've been lusting for the Nashville Delux for awhile now, pulled the trigger last week-end. Honey Blond, Maple neck OMG. Has the Tele quack and some Strat a Tude thrown in for good measure. This guitar almost plays itself, one of the fastest necks I've ever played and nicely balanced in the shoulder strap when your standing, not top heavy at all.

I'm off for some new strings,
John.E

Wow.. This is interseting to hear. I have a Strat and a Les Paul and have been wanting a Tele for a while now. I'm gonna pull the trigger soon. I'm tryring to decide on a Highway One or a Standard. What's up with teh Jumbo Frets? Are they that much different than Medium/Jumbo frets? I guess I have to go try some out to see how they feel.
