I traded my Harmony Rocket for a Fender Telecaster in 1967. It was cream colored (off white) with a gorgeous maple neck.

I wish that I still had it. I do still have the "ashtray" bridge cover though. 8)

The first Tele I played was an early 70's model. This was the autumn of '87,I was 16 and it was one of my first days as a first year music student. Some of the older kids were having a blues jam and asked me if I wanted to sit in.I told them I hadn't brought my guitar (a Charvel mod.2 at the time),which was true enough, but in fact I really didn't want to.They sounded so talented and I felt I'd only disgrace myself. "No problem",they told me.Somebody surely has a guitar you can borrow. And a few minutes later one of them came back with a Fender Telecaster. I was a bit sceptical of this "country & western guitar",young and ignorant hair metal fan that I was,but plugged it in and gave it my best. I couldn't believe what happened next! My fingers moved with a speed and grace like they never had before and I produced a sound I never thought myself capable of! Screaming like a wounded beast, soothing like a kind lover! Afterwords I was complemented on my playing, but I said:"Hey,I didn't do that! I've never played like that before. It's the guitar, not me." The kid who owned the Tele smiled and said:"Yes,Fenders do bring out the best in you, don't they? You'll have to get yourself one." I did.

1st tele I played I believe was an electron blue one. I was atracted by it because it didn't slide off my leg like the strats did. I was 14 at the time. I am now 15, and I have a strat copy and a Nashville power tele. I definately prefer the tele because not only is it a Fender, but it stays in tune better, and it gorgeous. Tortoise pickguard has to go however.

The first Tele I ever played was a '66.

At the time I owned a mid 60's Gibson SG and the Tele belonged to a friend. I loved the neck on the Tele and my friend suggested a trade and I jumped at the chance.

Some of my friends gave me a hard time about owning a Tele, at that time most Tele players were country guitarists. After my friends found out that Jimmy Page used a Tele on the first Led Zeppelin album all that stopped. LOL

I've been a Fender addict ever since!

I now have two Strat's that are my main "keepers" and of course a Tele.

hmm if i remember correctly it was about ten years ago, i got a mexican standard tele, loved it! eventually sold it down teh road, but it was a great guitar. As of recently 2 years ago i had a 72 tele deluxe reissue in walnut satin, sold that too, wish i didnt though, i think i might pick one of those up again , those are pretty cool , even for a Mexican guitar.

When I was living in New York, the first Tele and real guitar that I fell in love with was an original '73 Telecaster Deluxe. Man, that guitar was a beauty, and now I own the reissue.

An original Deluxe that was brown with 2 humbuckers and the Strat neck. Man, was it nice. My brother and I got our guitars when we were in high school within a few months of each other (back in the late 70's). He got the Tele after I had gotten a metallic green Coronado II that was also sweet.

As happens all too often, we got of into college and sold off our equipment to help finance our education. In fact, we both got out of the guitar business altogether until a few recent years ago.

Man, what I'd give to have those 2 back again...

I don't remember the first one I played, but he first one I bought was a 62RI Custom. Bought it in 1987 before I moved to San Francisco, and I still have it (does that make it vintage?). There have been a few, uh, changes over the years.
