I'm looking to get a tele, and I've always been a huge fan of Fender Japan. I love the way their guitars play, and though I have not been a fan of their pickups, I always like buying and trying new ones anyway. I've always liked buying used too, and theirs are about $200-$400 cheaper than their MIA counterparts.

I have a strat and a jazzmaster, and with the minor mods I've made to both I can't tell the difference between those and the AVRI versions. In fact I like mine better, cause I modded them that way.

Anyway a guy wants to sell me a black tele beat up as all hell for $400. I just don't know anything about MIJ teles, and won't have the opportunity to play it before I buy it as the opportunity presented itself online. Anybody have any strong opinions on them? I'm looking to buy a tele that I will have for a while, despite the beat up condition of this one I wonder if the MIJ will hold up to my standards.

Here's a pic

The s/n is P043089 if that helps.

Strange bridge. Looks like the ones on the '83 MIA top-loader Tele.

$400 is too much money for that guitar, in my opinion, especially if you can't try before you buy.

You can buy better used MIJs (and MIMs) for that price. Keep an eye on your local craigslist for better deals.

Yeah it is that bridge. It's not string thru. I tend to agree. A little too beaten up to be worth $400, and the guy is advertising it at $450. I'll see if I can work him down.
