The blues comes from the SOUL man! Doesn't matter what guitar you play!

But seriously, yes it's quite good for blues. I can get some pretty warm bluesy sounds out my neck pickup. If you get one with a humbucker at the neck I'd think even better.

Cheers.

Listen to Tab Benoit. That will answer your question...

These clean blues you speak of. Can you name an artist that plays this music? :?

I have read that B. B. King often uses Telecasters in the studio.

Its the player that makes the music, the instrument is just the vehicle. As far as playing clean and the blues...Do a little web search on Roy Buchanan and Albert Collins for starters...Can Tele's get good clean tones? I think pretty much any guitar does good clean tones, its a matter of what the amp is set at and/or what effects you are playing through...

Telecasters are the ultimate guitars. In my humblest of humble opinions, nothing is more versatile. Many guitars do a few things well, and a few do many things well; however, only one -- the indefatigable Telecaster -- works well with everything.

Seriously, you could play Bossa Nova on the thing and it would sound like a million bucks.

You could definitely play blues on a tele. Plenty of blues players play single coil guitars, and a tele would get the job done. I normally use the neck pickup for chords, and then switch to the bridge for a screaming lead.
Check out this video from The Iceman himself.

Albert Collins' playing with a tele should help you decide.

Yup, it's mostly in the player. That said, this picker's Tele is always played clean and is delightful there for.

'Have even coaxed some respectable jazz and classical and world out of her on occasion.
