The Re-issues are Mexican made from American parts. Do not let this put you off, the Classic Series is a fantastic series. I have the Custom and I actually could not live without it.

I bought a MIM 72 reissue tele thin line with 2 humbucker pups last year, it's a sweet guitar, the only thing I'd want different is medium jumbo frets & 22 frets instead of 21 other then that like I said (sweet)

Well there are Japanese reissues (with supposedly better quality) but only in Black and Sunburst (no Walnut :()

The Mexican ones are generally accepted as good guitars. You might have to change the pots if you want more tone though :/

Just try one at a store!

Yep, I had an MIM 72 RI and it played very nicely though the sound was just a bit thinner than I thought it would be. Now I have a CIJ that I had the luck to find on a relatively unnoticed EBay auction one day. The CIJ does have a very small edge in construction and to my ear, the sound might be just a hair crisper.

So by a nose, the CIJ "wins" but they're a lot harder to find and cost more. The MIM is fine and I still have an MIM 69 RI. I wouldn't keep buying them if they were no good or just advanced toys.

I regret the day I parted with my 72 RI, it was a great guitar.

Well NOTHING beats the real thing.....and they are also available from JAPAN which IMHO are a better ax than the MIM"S

BUT also let it be known that the main problem with these guitars were the cheap imitations of the strange size SETH LOVER HUMBUCKERS

They are now available from ???I FORGET but if ya google WIDE RANGE HUMBUCKERS you'll find em and they drop right in...they are also making a whole set of pups that fit in JAZZMASTERS also so you;re not stuck with stock garbage,

They will make this ax one of the BEST TELE"S EVER..IMO THE BEST and most versatile were the ones made just prior to the 72 DELUXE is the 71 CUSTOM better known as the KEITH RICHARDS MODEL....one single coil in the bridge and the HUMBUCKER in the neck.....
WOW WHAT TONE AND VERSATILTIY !!!

Hope that helps ya

A quick pot change makes a huge difference to the humbucker.

Right - I hear a lot of chatter on that. I really like the sound now. As I understant it, changing the 500k to a 250k is going to cut the bass back.

Changing the Hum to 1meg really brightens it and gets rid of any muddiness. The rest at 500k and you just darken the Hum with the tone when you need to but its finally clear man.

That's ANOTHER of the urban myths that are out there regarding the MIM 72 Deluxe RI.

No, they are NOT made from American parts.

Yes, they are still nice guitars.

There was a short run of USA Deluxes made around 2000. They are getting pretty pricy already.
