HI everyone...I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this.....I bought my first Tele a used one at the local guitar shop they told me it was a custom tele..I can't find any information on it and was wondering if someone could help me? The serial number on the back of the Neck says 60116424. Here are some pictures. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the pictures. They are a huge help.

My guess is that’s a Squier Standard Telecaster with aftermarket pickups and fake Fender decals on the front and back of the headstock.

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/s ... 0321200537

Here’s why I say it’s a Squier Standard:

1. The bridge. Click on the picture of the Tele at the link to enlarge it and notice the saddles and bridge mounting screws are identical to yours. That Squier bridge has mounting holes that are different than both the Fender vintage and modern styles, so in my opinion it’s unlikely anyone would install that bridge on any other kind of Telecaster body.

2. Volume and tone knobs. They are closer together than on Fender Teles and match the spacing of this Squier Tele in the link above. They also are dome-top knobs like the Squier instead of the flat-top knobs that Fender uses on most (but not all) Telecasters.

3. Color. Scroll down at that link and you’ll see that guitar is offered in Black Metallic, which looks like the finish on your guitar.

4. Headstock. Same two string trees and black plastic truss rod “frame” as the guitar in the link.

Speculation on pickups:

The bridge pickup is obviously aftermarket. I don’t think Squier or Fender has ever offered a blade pickup other than on the Danny Gatton Telecaster from the Custom Shop.

The humbucker in the neck position could be factory original or could have been installed by a previous owner. Squier has had so many different Tele versions over the years it’s hard to say for certain, but if you remove the pickguard screws and peek underneath the pickguard, you’ll probably be able to tell if it’s a factory job or if someone routed the body to accept the humbucker. My guess, because of the color, is that this is a recent model that came with a single coil in the neck position and whoever installed the blade pickup in the bridge also installed the humbucker.
