Whoa killer! Nobody is abandoning you. :D It is just very likely that the people that have viewed your post don't have any constructive advice to offer, have never encountered what you have described.

I am by no means an expert, but here's my 2 cents on your problem: If you are experiencing the problem when playing the open string, the string nut seems like a very logical place to start troubleshooting...assuming of course you are not willing to take your guitar to an experienced guitar technician (which I highly recommend).

You specifically mention the D and G strings, does this problem only occur on those strings? Make sure that you are able to isolate the sound to just the D and G strings. It can make troubleshooting a good deal easier.

Try picking the note and listening very carefully, move your head up and down the fretboard, and attempt to pinpoint where the sound is strongest. You need to listen carefully across the entire string length, from tuners to saddles. There could be rattling from the tuners, the nut, the frets, or the saddles.

Also try holding your finger directly over the nut. If the "harmonic" sound goes away then it is very likely the strings are rattling in the nutslots.

Also, do the strings sound muffled? Is it possible that they are rattling on the frets? Try raising the action of those strings a bit and see if the sound you described goes away.

Anyway, those are my humble suggestions. Be patient and stick around, there are a lot of very knowledgeable folks around these forums. Often it just takes a bit of time before they can respond.

Good luck, hope you get your tele in working order soon! :)

99% chance it's the nut.

The strings are probably binding in the nut slots, or the nut was poorly cut.

Did you switch to a heavier string guage? Even if you didn't, I'll bet your nut needs the attention of a pro guitar tech. Take it to a pro and have a full setup done. It's money well spent.

I'd check the nut first, as others are suggesting...if its not that, it might be the action, truss rod, or maybe some un-even frets or something, but I'd look at the easy solutions first and see if they solve the problem...

i'm a gibson convert ive come to love
the sound of a Fender through a tube amp
and really like to play alot of open chords and pick through
them and as you can tell the tele is a very important
part of this style for rhythm for lead work I use my strat with
a little TS9 lift here and there

I'd check to make sure the middle pickup is not set too high. On the Nashville Teles, the poles are a lot taller on the d & g strings on the middle pickup. Try those strings with the middle pickup off and see if the problem persists, otherwise as others have suggested, check the nut.

This guitar needs to be set up again by your tech..obviously he or she missed something. The intonation should be corrected slightly for the two strings. Also check that the strings are not pinching at the nut. I have a graphite nut & graphite string trees on mine and graphtech bridge to prevent the strings from going out of tune. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to get it right. So take it back and ask for help. Most GTR techs want to keep the customer happy.
It might sound obvious, but i keep upgrading parts til I'm happy with the guitar. To me it's worth it. Look here:

Clem160 stated that his guitar is in tune but those two strings sounded bad. I still feel there is too much magnetic pull from that center pickup. A very tiny drop of 3 in 1 oil on the nut will help sticky strings too.
