Hi, first time here on the forum.

I purchased a new american std tele this week-end (first tele ever). I choose the 3 color sunburst with maple fretboard. However there's something weird about the body finish, it looks like the body is made of two seperate piece of wood held together like there a seperation in the middle of the body. I don't know if anyone undertand what I'm talking about.

If someone can tell if the body is one piece or not...

Thanks

Yep - that's how they are. My American Standard is a 2 piece ash and my AVRI is a 3 piece ash. In my opinion it's not whether it's a one piece or not, it's about the selection process in sourcing and matching the wood - 1, 2 or 3 pieces. The AVRI with 3 pieces has a better, lighter and brighter feel than my AM Std 2 piece. You could always request a one piece through the Custom Shop....

I always thought the body was one piece on all solid body bolt-on guitars...Guess I was way wrong. Thanks guy.

Are all AM STD tele with 2-3 pieces, no 1 piece ?

Is there any difference in tone from one piece to 2 pieces to 3 pieces ?

Even though im sure it does affect the tone ,you may need hardware to actually tell the difference ,my ear is not that advanced. It probably is more of an issue with hollows.
I was looking for my Factory tour pics, but could not fine the one of the body before shaping .They do hand select the raw product and glue them individually ,it is not a mechanized production ,in fact I was amazed at how much of the work on Corona guitars is still hand done .
I have the same guit you do and fine it to have execptional tone and playability, if there was a flaw in the tele its the bridge pickup is mounted in the metal instead of the wood body like the G.E. Smith model.

2 piece is quite normal. sometimes you'll see more than that, especially if the body gets an opaque finish. You would pay a whole lot more for a one-piece, since high quality body blanks that wide are just that much more scarce.

yeah, 2 piece is pretty common. I don't think it's anything new, hough. Weren't they using 2, sometimes 3 piece bodies in the 60's as well?

Doesn't matter: the sum of those parts is an American Standard Telecaster. A fantastic instrument.
