I seem to be a Tele guy. Of course not everyone is. I guess every guitar and pickup configuration makes a certain sound or tone. Songs seem to be a product of a player playing that particular guitar. So we think that to replecate that tone, we have to play that guitar. I have tended to believe that no matter the guitar, in the right hands it can make any sound you want it to make. I like the teles look and feel. I also like the idea that it is a simple guitar, yet it has a ton of tone. For me, it just feels right!

As with others, I like the simplicity and the classic tone. I have a few guitars to choose from (including two strats) but I'd say 9 times out of 10, when I just want to play, I reach for the Tele or an acoustic.

I also tend to reach for the Tele when I want to practice fundamentals. That way, no finding myself fiddling with settings, wandering off into exploring sounds, etc. I stick to the goal and that's that.

Finally, when I travel, I can only fit one guitar and a small amp in the car. So, with rare exception, it's the Tele and my old 86 vintage Champ for the road. Between the two, I can probably handle almost anything except possibly serious metal, but that's not something I play anyway.

So I'm also saying that simplicity in this case = versatility.

I have owned many guitars and have loved all but a few. My first Tele was a Nashville Deluxe, which is great because I can get Strat tones out of it and it's comfortable to play. I also bought a Nashville Deluxe Power Tele which sounds awesome. I lucked out when I found my Power Tele because usually the bodies are two pieces of Alder glued together. Mine is one big piece with a smaller chunk glued down by the cutaway. I think it gives it better tone & sustain.

We Loungers tend to be blessed to own guitars which suit our moods, as well as palying styles. Sometimes, a Tele just plain feels right for this picker. A very "informal" guitar, basic and straightforward.

I just got my first Tele 2 weeks ago.

Never cared for their looks, & loved the look of a Strat.

Had a Strat, hated playing it, didn't like the way it felt or sounded, I just never could warm up to it.

So I sold the Strat & stuck to playing my Archtops (Sheraton II & Wildkat).

Started seeing Teles in a bunch of videos and fell in love with their sound.

Found an 01 MIM Tele in Candy Apple Red (for a good price) and then fell in love with the looks of them too.

It's has quickly become my favorite, I think a lot of has to do with the "C" neck which just feel right in my fleshy paws, my brother, he hates the neck.

Might be why you can't warm up to a Tele too.

I would like to give a view from the prospective of a new guitarist who chose a Tele as his first guitar.

First of all I couldn't agree more with Guitarist1983 in his post.
Guitars are inspiration--use the guitar that excites you. I felt I really would want to play this guitar often.

I saw this guitar and I went wow. I didn't do that with other brands or models of guitars. It's like a great looking car or woman.
I must say that the history of the Tele had a lot to do with my purchase decision.

I love the way this guitar sounds. This is an incredible sounding guitar even from the prospective of someone who is learning and hopefully developing a fine tuned ear.

I own both an American Strat and Telecaster.

The Strat is way more comfortable and easier to play. I prefer the look of a Strat. But when it comes to sound, even tho it's way less comfortable, i pick my Tele. In my optinion, it's more versatile, but when it comes to tone, it's really what you like, for me it's a Tele.

If i play some Jimmy Hendrix, i need my Strat, if i play some Radiohead, i got to have my Tele. I guess i can't live without both of them!

:)

I just bought a 2 tone sunburst tele thinline. My first guitar was a strat, and I gotta say I love all types of guitars. I plan on getting a jazzmaster too. There's something unique about each guitar that makes them so enjoyable to play. Also the feel of the maple neck on the Thinline is just heaven to me, has a slight flame pattern on the sides too!

Play what you like, but know this: there might be a Tele for you! I've owned a Standard Tele, which I gave to my son two years ago when he started playing at age 9. It didn't have enough output for my taste, but the kid makes it sound better than I ever did. I replaced it with a Nashville Power Telecaster. It has the best of both Strat and Tele worlds... plus a little extra! In place of standard Tele pickups it has TexMex pickups-- wound a little hotter than the originals with plenty of traditional Tele spank. Sandwiched between them is a TexMex Strat pickup for a little Strat bite. The "extra" is six individually-wired piezo acoustic pickups under the saddles. You can dial in the electric tone you like, then fatten it with the acoustic side, and it's a sound I often get asked about. It's the best hybrid in the world! And its looks are all Tele, baby.
