Hello Slick Tele,

Firstly welcome to this Forum,
Lotsa good info here. Searches and praticipation
assure you finding out info and interests.

Now I'm rather old,and am still looking for
that perfect telecaster, In '96 I got a MIM standard
and it's never let me down and the new ones are even
better quality, so they get my thumbs up.

Visit stores and see whats out there, then,
Buy one, post photos and play the heck out of it.

Cheers.

A Tele Standard is an excellent choice. Great price and the bridge PU tone is true to that signature “twang”. After all, that is one of the real reasons why we love our Teles, right?

Play On!

Even though prices for used Fenders tend to be rather competitive, it's worth looking for a used American standard. One can probably be had for less than the cost of a new MIM, and it would be an excellent guitar. On the other hand, the MIMs are excellent -- I should know; I've got one -- and won't disappoint! Best advice: Play everything and get the best guitar you can afford.

Buy one that's in the 400 dollar range. Look around the frets for wear if you go get a used Tele -like on eBay or some other auction/recycle site. Refrets can be costly. Check the guitar web sites for info so you know Telecasters really well. Also read Tony Bacon and Dave Hunters book "Totally Guitar" . It's always better to buy new condition - played 3 times - and get a break on price unless you can afford all new. Make sure you upgrade it with a setup - to meet your personal needs as a guitarist. :D

I agree with lago. Do yourself a favor and check out some Squires. The Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified Teles are very good guitars and for the price are very hard to beat. Ya you might find a really good deal on a used mim, if you find an american for a mim price it's got problems or is stolen. Or your really really lucky that someone dosen't know what they're selling. e-bay has educated a lot of people just what some things will sell for. Don't let sticker name ego force you to buy something above your budget. You will need some of that money for a decent amp, strings, and maybe a pedal or two. And remember even big dollor guitars usally need some set-up work to be right.
