I want to change PUp's and have heard that some or most MIM are already routed for a Humbucker in the neck position.

1. Is this true? And how can you be sure, before taking it apart?

2. Is it set up for the old style wide Humbuckwers or just "regular ones"?

3. Anyone use the "lipstick style humbuckers and what do you think?

1. It's true, they are all like that (that's for the Standards! ...the Classics and other vintage-based MIM models have a single coil route) Don't need to take it apart, just trust us

2.the route is for regular size "Gibson" humbuckers.

3. Lipstick style humbuckers? Tele neck pickups but with two stacked coils? No, never used them.

Now off to research, which ones will work best.

I installed a Seymour Duncan STK-T1n in one of my Teles and love the tone. Classic vintage Tele neck tone without any of the hum; absolutely quiet. Since it is a stacked HB, the tone is slightly thicker, fatter, but definitely Tele-like. I find it perfect for classic rock, blues and jazz if you roll back on the tone. Anyhow, you can sample the pickup on the SD webpage.

Play On!
