Can anyone tell me what type/model Tele that Eddie Vedder is using here? I know that is a pretty general question but you guys may be able to see things to identify it.. I know it's a Fender!

He has used this baby alot through the years... in fact I've seen him play this at many of the show I attended. I'm just curious as I am looking to get a Tele soon.... Thanks

Man, hard to tell.. but I found a clue:

"Eddie has three reissue Telecasters, including his first guitar, which his mom bought him. The other two are just '52 reissues." (his tech said that)

So, by being a reissue (if we suppose he was talking about this guitar) It's pretty much some 60's reissue. Or a 50's with a swapped neck and bridge. Or an original 70's modded with a P90 on the neck... so many possibilities!

Any closer picture of that headstock?

Nevermind, found in a brazilian guitar gear website that this guitar is a 1963 "black sparkle" Tele. The neck pickup, bridge and finish are all mods.

Hey, Thanks for the response!! I saw that info also on the "GIven To Wail" site. I think the black sparkle version may be another one of Ed's Tele's. I may have a picture of that one too... I appreciate your feedback!

I know it's tough to tell what model this is... does it look like a neck humbucker or mini-HB? If so, which new, or modern Tele would be similar? Thanks!

The only thing sure is that it is "highly modified" LOL
Neck P U = Gibson "P-90" a real fav of anyone who wants to wail!
the bridge is a never seen before item from this this observer of > 40 yrs of Tele watching.
The tape is the real thing here, though that is totally the way he gets his sound! Wad'ya'think?LOL [just having a bit a fun!]

Thanks for the response! So that's a P-90 in the neck huh? I wasn;t sure if it was that or a mini humbucker. Can a P-90 be added to a 2009 MIM Tele without any reroutering? Here's another pic to confirm its a P-90. Thanks again for your help!!

That tape, the sparkles and the grain showing thru on the upper corners are certainly unique

Saljam, unfortunatelly, your Tele will need a little drilling. The P90s are a little "taller" that the humbucker route you already have in your guitar. But there are P90s in humbucker shape, in case you don't want to increase the neck pickup cavity.

Seymour Duncan has a model called the Phat Cat which is a direct replacement p-90 for a humbucker route. If you don't want to do any routing go for this.

Gibson makes P-94s too which are supposed to be great pickups...humbucker sized P-90s.

In the upper left corner you can see the wood through it...it's like a transparent gray finish. Almost like the corner of a Gibson silverburst.

FIRST let me clear this up being BIG into GIBSON PUPS I too have a P-90 in my neck of and the P94 they make in HUMBUCKER SIZE SOUND LIKE GARBAGE...

They have used that configuration back into the 40's and it is the BEST SINGLE COIL PUP IN THE WORLD IMHO.

HE has also done some trick wiring and added a 4 way switch vs the three to give them the possibility of putting both pups in series making them basically into a HUMBUCKER.

Lot's of guys prefer MIM"S over MIA...I DO and if given a choice I would go with an early JV TELE FROM JAPAN.

These were made when FENDER first gave the japs a shot at making ax's for them.....they sold for 150.00 when new in 81-82 and now sell for 1,000 to 1500.00 depending on originality and model

If you try to find a JV TELE BE CARE FULL as the only markings are the stamp on the bridge plate...so anyone can get a hold of a JV PLATE with the numbers engraved in em and put em on any early JAPANESE made ax and sell it as a JV,....BUT if ya take of the neck it SHOULD say JV and some numbers in the neck pocket.

THE ANSWER ABOUT ROUTING AND PUTTING IN A SOAPBAR STYLE P-90 is YES you will have to route it a bit wider for the corners but nothing that will ruin it for turning it back to normal that the pick guard won't cover.

TRUST ME once ya get that P-90 in there you will NOT take it out it sounds GREAT !!!!

BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR CAPACITORS to BUMBLEE BEES OR ORANGE DROPS AT LEAST

STEPHENS DESIGN AND TV JONES. LOLLAR HAVE RECENTLY PUT OUT SOME HUMBUCKER SIZED P-90;s that sound FAIR....

KENT ARMSTRONG"S aren;t bad but to be 100% HONEST NOTHING sounds as good as a SOAP BAR GIBSON P-90....it is the true ORIGINAL P-90 even GIBSON admits not being able to copy that sound in a HUMBUCKER SIZE WELL.

You;llnever change it back to original once it's in not to mention you';ll be ruined by any stock TELE after ya hear it with that P-90.....it make thatTWNG and gives it more personaility

I guess you can tell I love P-90;s

ST James

St. James, you've almost got me talked into trying to find a real P-90 and installing it in my MIA Tele!! I am one who has never modded any of my guitars with the exception of 1 pick guard.
