ok so i have a 52 reissue that i love. but i never use the neck pickup and am thinking of adding a humbucker in that position (i'll have to have the body routed too) i'm thinking a duncan 59, will i need to change the pots to 500K just for a neck pickup?

You could put SD Little ’59 HB for Strat and spare yourself the trouble of having to route the body. If you do decide to route the body I would suggest you look into one of Duncan’s mini-hums. They’re closer to that classic Tele tone while giving you the crunch of a humbucker. In my opinion, full sized humbuckers tend to sound muddy in the neck position of a Tele.

A 500k pot will give you a bit more on the top end that humbuckers typically lose. I have one of my Tele’s configured with a 250k pot and a mini-hum in the neck and I’m very pleased with the tone.

Play On!

I would keep the original 250k pot unless I find the humbucker too muddy. The 500k pot must bring more highs, but you lose some "variation" in the tone range.
