So i thought i would share how telecasters became my favorite guitar.

I started playing guitar at a young age, and i always wanted the real deal, a fender, but they were too expensive for me at that time, so as soon as I had enough money to buy one, I wanted a Strat, a nice American Standard Stratocaster, it was truly my dream guitar, after a long wait, I got it, i was so happy, it played like a dream.

Six month after I got my Strat, I found a deal that i couldn't pass by, a almost brand new Highway One Telecaster for $400, the only thing that was wrong with it, was the 2 little dent in the wood and belt rash. I decided to buy it as my Second guitar.

But the more I played the Telecaster the more I loved the sound, it is just amazing and simple, no tremelo, no useless knobs. I use my Telecaster 80% of the time now. I can't believe that now i can prefer Telecasters over Stratocasters...

The thing is, I don't like black, my Telecaster is dusty and dented, not like my Strat who is like new, all shiny, and in a lovely Candy Cola, but still, my Highway One wins with her amazing tone and simplicity.

So to make this thread a bit more interesting, here's some pictures :D

Hello Jacquline560,

You don't like black --- well head over to you local
collision center and have them paint it in the
color of your favorite choice.
Your unique Tele.

Cheers.

Hi Jaqueline, been a long time, glad to hear from you. Let me see, red Strat, red Blues Junior mmmhh maybe a red Tele next? :) I don't know how much it would cost you to have a paint job on your Tele, but I would worry me about tone mutation. Take the time to get all the infos you need to make the right choice. Good luck.

Hehe, thanks for the replies.

I can easily get over the fact that my Tele is not a color that a really love, I was just saying that to say that even tho my guitar is a bit beat up and not in a color that I like, it still sound like a dream and I don't care much after all how she look, as long as I love the sound and feel of the guitar.

:)

Right on. :D
Maybe you could just change the pickguard for a pearloid one and have a drastic change in the look of the guitar.

I have to agree that Teles are awesome to play. Just bought a American Standard a few months back and love it. I HAD been planning on getting a Strat, but one day I decided to plug in a Tele while checking out some amps and I was instantly hooked. Love the feel, love the tone, love the simplicity. Its the perfect guitar for me...

Great story, great guitar! I started with a strat as well, but the tele is just plain comfortable.
That thing looks hot man.

The only time I see the color of my tele is when it's on the stand. If I'm playing it I only see the neck once in a while and that's only when I open MY eyes an Old Habit I picked up from playing in the dark laying in bed when I was a kid. I learned to feel the music and the guitar and still play that way 40 years later.

I love the black+maple fretboard+white pickguard combo in a tele. Talk about simplicity...

I think it's what telecasters are famous for, simplicty...

It's amazing how much tone you can get out those 2 tone knobs and the 3 way switches, i can't get that range of tone with my Strat at all.

I thought a telecaster would be too twangy, but it's absolutly not, i can get awsome rich fat tone with the neck and the neck-bridge pickup.

I'll keep looking on ebay and kijiji, maybe i'll find another cool telecaster with dents and scratches that someone want to get rid off!

:D

That's so true!

What I usually hear/read is that people started to use much more their volume/tone controls and different picking approaches (closer to the bridge, closer to the neck) after they started playing the Telecaster. The same happened to me. I never touched the tones so much when I had a Strat (still have, and it's retired). My theory is that the simplicity of the Tele configuration makes you search more for these "hand techniques", and at the same time, this improves your ears for subtle changes in tone. Teles are addictive like no other :)

I started the opposite way, went from tele to strat and believe me it was a bit of an annoyong transition .I still feel that the tele volume /tone configuration is the most comfortable of any guitar. As I like my picking hand free from any knobs and this took some getting used to when switching to a strat for the first time. You can tell that super shredders like Paul Gilbert and John Petrruci also like it that way as on there signature models the knobs or in Pauls case knob is far away from there picking hand. Also if you have ever moded a good tele with stacked humbuckers you will know you have a guitar that is a rock or metal animal as players like John 5 or Ritchie Kotzen can attest to.
