Hi, this morning I was going to buy a G E Smith, but the serial number begins with SV00 and is in the neck plate, but in the link of Support indicates the serial number must begin with SZ(XX...) and the trust road is sealed (in the headstock), could be this a fake guitar?

Hello Nmorales,

Firstly, welcome to the Forum.

Truss rod issue sounds right, adjust at the heel.

Serial numbers on back of headstock begin SZ
Serial number on neck plate begin SV
I have know idea why there are 2 different
locations possibly sensitive to particular years.

Call Fender customer service they'll clear thing up.

I would also like to add the GE Smith Tele is my
favorite telecaster although I don't own one{yet}.

Cheers .

I wouldn't buy one. Check the switching options and make sure you're comfortable with them. They are not the standard switching options used for most of the Telecaster's history.

3-Position Blade:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickup
Position 3. Neck Pickup

from the G.E. Smith Tele specs. And even a guitar that has the original switching system (bassy neck-neck-bridge, like the Am. Vintage 52ri) you can easily convert to the regular switching.

The early Smiths had the SZ serial on the headstock (up to early 2007). Since then, they are all SV on the neckplate.

I see they have changed it. When this model first was issued it had a different switch configuration.

I was checking one out online myself. What do these usually go for and where are they made.
