I was looking at a Highway One Telecaster the other day. Now, I've been having thoughts of trading in a Deluxe Player's Strat that I bought last year for it. I've been having issues playing it. Prior to the Strat, I've played a Tele for a long time. I just can't get used to the feel of the Strat. I also can't get used to the sound of the noiseless pickups.

My old Tele is still playable, but it has developed a pretty bad hum. I've even had it shielded... It still hums. Once the effects kick in, it's really bad. So... what would you do?

If you'll enjoy playing the tele more then the choice seems all too obvious.

Get that purty guitar

Take a look at the fsr western tele at sam ash it has a 4-way switch and texas tele pu's I've heard alot of good things about them. It sounds like you might have a grounding problem in your pickups or controls on your tele.

I looked the FSR Western up... I have Texas Specials in my old Tele now. The originals went microphonic. I still have them. I was also thinking about just having everything replaced in it. But, I don't know.

I just thought I'd start over with a new Tele... I still need to play the Highway One Tele... but, I've heard good things about them.

I know it cost more but get a MIA Standard Tele. You will not regret it and you'll never need to upgrade, Just my opinion though. Good luck!

My old Tele was built back when you didn't have to ask where it was made. Things just go bad over time. I've tried to keep it playable, and for the most part it is. It just needs another update.

Then, there was the Telecaster Thinline I bought back in 1972. That thing had so many issues that went on for so long that after the 6th visit to the shop, I sold it. You name the problem, it had it.

Anyway... The Highway Ones are made in USA, right? At least that's what the sticker says...

One might argue the Am Standard is the superior instrument, since technically the HWY 1 consists of only 85-90% US parts. The pickups are infact mexican, for example.

But it's important to remember the HWY1 has it's own features that doesn't come on Standards (eg. The Nitro finish, cool 70's headstock). It's really all down to what a person is looking for in a strat.

If you're comfortable enough with jumbo frets the HWY1 is quite possibly the best value for your dollar Fender produces. (Sometimes half the price of a Standard)

You know, I'm an odd sort of duck... the more solutions I receive the more questions I have. I mean, I like a telecaster... I should get the telecaster, right? But the more I think... the more difficult the decision becomes.

Should I just keep the Deluxe Player Strat and mod my 1970 Telecaster (thus decreasing it's old guitar value...)

Should I trade the Deluxe Player (which has had issues since day one, by the way...) and try a Highway One Tele or Strat?

Should I trade the Deluxe Player and get a MIA Standard Tele as a proper replacement for my aging 1970's Telecaster?

Should I just be happy and call it a day?

See? So far... very good questions. But, no easy answers...

:?
