I heard that the finish which is applied to most Fender guitars today wont "age" or "relic" like older fender guitars, is this true?

It all depends on the finish. The polyester will survive the next world war, the nitro with a thin undercoat should age similar to the originals.

yup, the poly finishes have similarities with tank armor.

a natural relic on a poly finish guitar would take a hella long time.

Not that there is anything wrong with tank armor mind you. All my Fenders are poly and I dig them all!... a nitro would be nice though.

Highway 1's are also something to consider if you wanted a nice natural relic over time. Great instruments, I love that they have the nitro finish.

+1 on the Highway 1's. I've only had mine 4 months and you can see the shine on the finish that will become natural wear points.

I believe that if you play everyday, long sleeves with big buttons, big bad cufflinks, a big shiny cowboy/trucker belt buckle, don't store the tele in a stand or any kind of case or gig bag on a wood or tile floor, carry your guitar everywhere slung over your shoulders with no case, don't ever wash your hands and don't clean or change your strings unless one breaks and just abuse the crap out of it for a few years, no matter the finish, you'll get that relic look, it's that simple.

I agree, my 72 Tele Custom RI has aged loads in 6 years of constant playing.

Well, they don't actually relic themselves in any case--you have to play them--and all the stuff mentioned above.

Whack them into things--and they'll relic.

If you play it long and hard, it will relic naturally.

52 reissues are nitro over poly, they just don't wear like the originals, no way. The same goes for the Highway 1s and all others that are nitro over poly.

There are the Road Worns that are nitro with no poly undercoat (though the necks are urethane) and the Custom Shops. Those will get the closest to the originals.

I'm pretty sure there's no poly undercoat on Highway 1's.
