Could all owners of the AV 1952 Telecaster RI tell me if they changed to the modern wiring or kept it legit.

Cheers.

Modern, only because I love how the front pickup sounds with it and hate the dark sounds from the old circuit.

I've kept mine original; I rarely use the neck pickup on its own though...

I think you buy a 52 re-issue for a reason. Changing the wiring to modern kind of defeats the purpose.

I agree 100%. But apparently some people are all about the fashion statement.

Only had mine for 3 weeks, but love the sound and don't see a pressing reason to change to modern wiring...

In changing the wiring Fender was admitting that the original circuitry was a failure. The more simple modern switching gives three absolutely stellar tones. You get a bridge pickup that barks like a dog. The neck pickup is deep and mellow. And the combination of the two is that binky bouncy boinky sound. All very distinctive and useable. All three tones are woven into the history of rock and country music.

It seems to me that whether Fender changed the wiring in response to demand or simply for the sake of change (or perhaps because of the emergence of their own bass guitars), there is a period of musical history whose Telecaster sound is most accurately represented by a '52 Telecaster or it's reissue.
So - when was the wiring change made? And how many examples of the original '52 Tele sound are there in popular music, that those who own the '52 reissue would want to emulate?

The wiring change was made sometime in 1967. My tele was one of the last with the original wiring.
