I would highly recommend Kinman Broadcasters. Great sounding pickups, no hum but retains the single coil tone. They retain a lot of clarity but can really growl if pushed.

I have a set of Lollard Vintage T-series in my tele....and oooohhhh my! When I decided to get them, I was comparing them to some Duncan Antiquitys in an 07 tele and really found these to have the nicer tone IMHO.

I'd also recomend, if you go the Humbucker route, get a push-pull setup with your tone knob so you can get a semi single coil sound at the neck and open up some opportunites to get some nice 2nd position tones. Or you could get a four way switch that in first position throws your pickups in series and provides more output = more breakup from your amp.

Good Luck!

Most MIM Tele’s are already routed for a humbucker in the neck position; that opens up more possibilities. You could go the way of a ’52 Hot Rod and put a Seymour Duncan SM3 in there or any mini HB for that matter. As far a bridge pickup goes a matching stacked HB could easily be dropped in as well. I already have a ‘52 Hot Rod and wanted something different for my MIM Tele and went with a complete kit from Texas Customs. www.texascustoms.us They have sound clips that you could sample and determine if this is for you. Anyhow, here’s what I ended up with:

dmeds,

I'm thinking of going with the Texas Customs mini HB, for my MIA Tele. How does it compare to the Seymour Duncan SM1 in your ‘52 Hot Rod?

Thanks,

First of all, they are both top notch, high quality pickups. Having said that, I’ll start with the Texas Customs HB. This pickup has the fat, thick, warm sound of a humbucker; the difference I hear is the smooth creamy tone and sustain it can deliver. The sample clip on their website is accurate of what you’ll get with your Tele. By the way, I bought the entire kit with the super coil control plate. That may have a play on the tone as well.

The Duncan pickup is no slouch. The tones I get from it in my ’52 Hot Rod is reminiscent of that classic HB bite you get from an early era Les Paul. Lots of growl, punch and clarity; classic rock n roll.

Hope that helps.

Play On!

Thanks dmeds,

That helps. I'm thinking I may have to flip a coin they both sound like a good choice.

I have a Mexican Standard from 2008, and I want some clearer pickups. I'd like to still keep the bridge a single coil, but I'm not sure if I want to make the neck pickup a humbucker. Any recommendations? Thanks!
I recommend Fred Stuart Black Guards. Spendy but they're the best.

During the chicagoland guitar show I ran across a father son team of rich, chris, and matt Rice I was so impressed with the feel and sound of there guitars that I have a custom built one on the way the pickups they make are awesome very organic sounding beyond that they build everything to your requirements just tell them what you want and presto they build you hand wound pickups.
