I want to get a telecaster and I've had my eye on the 69 thinline in natural, which would be the mahogany body. I've had the chance to play teles before and I'm familiar with the tele sound. I love the looks of the thinline and thats important I guess, but what's more important is the sound. Without having the oppurtunity to try one out (can't find one in my area, might have to do some traveling). I was wondering how good the semi-hollowness of the body is as far as twang goes. It'll be used for that ole' time country twang tele's are known for, although I realise it won't be as thin as a normal tele. I might just have to go with a standard, but I really love the looks of the thinline and it'll have to be in natural either way. And whatever I get, i'm thinking about loading it up with some seymour duncan antiquities, which will most likely change the sound alltogether.

Anybody have any experiences with this guitar? Theres got to be at least somebody on the forum here that owns one?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think the mahogany '69 thinline Telecaster is a stunner to look at.
Don't own one but some thirty years ago a friend had one.
What i remember is it sounding warmer then a normal Tele but still had that Tele-bite on the bridge pickup.

I have a MIJ '69 Thinline and had a CIJ one prior to that. They are really nice guitars, the main attration, other than their distinctive looks, over other Teles would be that they are lighter due to the hollow body.

If you are going to chage pickups, the tone thing is probably irrelevant isn't it?

My suggestion would be to get a Japanese one if you can, their necks are to die for, in comparison to the MIM version (IMHO).

Here's my MIJ version...

A 69 thinline is the only Tele I don't have. I do have a Squier Master Series Thinline that is modeled after the 72 model only it has two volume and two tone knobs. It had semour duncan designed double coils and I replaced them with DiMarzio Bluesbuckers. I love the look of the 69, classic!

Thanks for the replies yall. I'm gonna make some phone calls around and see if I can find one somewhere and go try it out. I've read a bunch of reviews all around the net and hear nothing but good things about this guitar, whether it's MIM, MIJ or whatever. Although I'm not in the habit of taking internet guitar reviews very seriously.

I wanna try this one and a classic 50's side by side and then do a comparison. I can't believe those 50's are only available in three finishes, you would think they could at least do one in natural.

I have a Hwy I, but picked up the '72 Thinline, and like the sound thru my '65 Reverb reissue amps.

well, the question is are you buying the guitar and depending on it to give natural sounds or do you already have all of the effects you want in pedals, amps, etc... blackdiamond13 @ Jemsite
