This is a great version of a classic 60s soul tune by Bill Frisell. Does anyone know what he's using as a neck pup?

I'm thinking filtertron?

But it could also be an old "foil-top" as was made by DeArmond. These pickups were popular in the lower-end guitars of the 50s and 60s like Teisco, Norma, Kay, Silvertone, and others, but had great tone.

I think it is a foiltop too.

Toward the end of the Frisell video, he puts a device over the strings and it looks like the guitar pickup catches the sound. That could be a microphonic "quality" found in cheaper pickups.

I believe I remember that Randy Meisner of the Eagles used an old Japanese bass with cheap pickup that was supposed to be a real prize.

I agree with both statements. I've heard that he uses a Boomerang looper for that doubled sound at about 2/3 into the video. It pretty cool how he uses it in this tune too. 8)
