Hey guys!

alright...well being the amature that I am..
I decided I would switch strings from Fender Bullets .011's to D'addario .010's because one of my favorite bands, Hillsong, uses that kind.

What I didn't know is that switching gauges meant changing up your set up a little.

and so I watched countless videos on how to set up and how to set up itonization and adjusting tross rod and all that...
which I did.

but now it seems like, although I got rid of the buzzing..
my strings don't seem to have as much sustain as the .011's.

I was wondering if this is because it needs to be set up correctly?
or if the truss rod needs to be adjusted?
or do the saddle's need to be lowered/higherd?
or is it just because of the strings?

thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure thicker strings carry better sustain.

Having said that I'm not very experienced with setting up a guitar, so it *may* be something else. Someone more knowledgeable should be able to help you soon

Welcome!

Brand, gauge, metals composition, tensility, etc. will affect sustain as well as overall tone along with whether the strings are wound correctly or not. In your particular situation, what you changed to would definitely curtail sustain a bit. This is not to say that your chosen set is a dud or substandard in any way; it's simply the difference in properties of these two string sets.

Bear in mind too, everything affects everything. So, your other questions may or may not need action taken in those areas too. However, the fact that you did serious research on setups and feel that you did a good job, frankly, leads me to believe that all you have to do now is get used to the difference with your new string set. As long as you are comfortable and confident with your work on the guitar, I wouldn't sweat it at all. Besides, as you gain proficiency in setups, you'll always be tweaking something here and there, every now and then. Don't worry about it, just enjoy!
