finally was able to work out sending back the guitar which is subject of this
thread, i was told to send it to supposedly one of fender premier custom shops, which i did in orlando, upon arrival the neck was condemned and a new neck was order and installed so far so good, i stressed the fact that the guitar should be set up and i was told it was and received it back, NO SET UP! only thing they did was bolt on new neck and shipped it out, strings still broke because the frets just needed a polishing to get some burrs off,
intonation is a major problem and i'm lead to beleive the issue is with the nut, here is a pic below, you'll see chips, the 6th string sits on top of the groove , 1 2 3 strings are just swimming in the grooves, a down right mess.

this thread and the saga of this MiM sadly continues!

Hey man, there´s a strange connection here... Same guitar (Standard Black Tele), same fretwire marks... AAAAAAND.... I also have a second problem:

Image

It´s not loose, a smaller piece of card material could slide through the half of the neck pocket... So, the pocket is not perfectly flat what moves the pitch of the neck once in a while....

Man! What a big disappointment.

FENDER: Please do something.

I don´t think the problem is the QC Standards of Mexico, I think the problem is what the company don´t care or don´t wanna put more detailed attention for their QC in their "Less expensive products" Factory. But man! With the money I spent I could buy two guitars of waaaay better quality.

I have never had anything bad from Mexico but saying that most of my experiences have been from the Classic Series which I think is a great series and well made.

But omg  That nut and that neck fit above are AWFUL problems to have. I'm gutted for you guys, truly. I hope you get it sorted.

I´m concern about the marks on the frets.. About the neck joint, I think it could be fixed with a shim (Or could not?) But that fret job.. wow! Any ideas about? Is it something that I should be worry? If it can´t be fixed, I will have to take it back to the mother nature.. (Recycle).. I promise.

I found my receipt!!

Fender is in the process to authorize a warranty service for my Tele. As for today, they seem to have one of the best (International) warranty support and customer care soul that not all the companies have (Products in general). The guitar will be check and inspected at their Service Center in La Mesa, California when they submit their process.

I´ll let you know more as soon as I get news.

i hope you have better luck than i have, the latest pic of the nut is from a warranty replaced neck to sort out the frets, so be vigilant with your warranty claims,

with regards to your note on international warranty claim,
forget it, warranty stops at the us border, read your papers !

excerpt...............................................................

*This warranty applies only to products purchased and serviced within the U.S.A. and Canada.*

i've been told by fender if you purchase in north america and take out of north america, warranty is no longer applicable ! saying that it doesn't seem to be your problem so i'm wondering why you mentioned international to begin with?

Thanks for the info Standish,

Well, I don´t know how to start.... Hmmmm... Ok... Here I go... I´m MIM!!! hahaha! But I´m not defective! I promise!!!!

So the story starts here:

I went to the local dealer when I found my receipt, and those guys didn't even want to check my guitar since they said they don´t have "Tech-Skills". I first thought that there was nothing to do but call GC in San Diego and ask if they could inspect my instrument, so I did it. The guy was very gentle and said the good news was that fender gives lifetime warranty even if the product wasn't purchase in the US. So he gave me the contact info of the nearest Fender Service Center. I called the business, explained my problem, and they said there was nothing to worry, and that they just shipped a Custom Shop guitar back to Mexico City. I sent pics of my guitar, attached my proof of purchase etc....
They also told me that fender is very reasonable with warranty issues on defective products and they were going to be waiting for fender to call them, then contact me.
So yes, it all sounds like a nice dream after this heavy nightmare, but I´m not that positive-optimistic until they contact me to give me warranty service. I feel I still need good luck!

Regards

Well I'm in the UK and my warranty still counts.

each country where fenders have dealers
have different warranties limited to inside those countries,

no mix or match of country warranties,

with regards to the custom shop again different warranties apply to custom shop guitars.........................................

Hey things happen even on custom shop axes. First I am surprised you did not thoroughly check the ax out before buying it. Secondly when you have thousands upon thousands of guitars rolling out of a factory some are going to slip by that should not. There are people who pay 100K for a Benz and get a lemon, it happens.

sorry staycat113

these things should not happen ever never mind twice in my case, full stop !

cars (can you say toyota) guitars it doesn't matter,

what your saying is that it's perfectly acceptable and we as consumers should tolerate shoddy workmanship in the products we buy, well to you i say bollocks unless of course your a fender mole trying to minimize their inferior products,

remember all, the consumer has the money and they can take their business where ever they chose and this consumer has and will not give anymore to fender !

Standish:

Service center email me and said they were gonna give me a brand new guitar. (Lifetime warranty applies at least in Mexico) ...By the way, what happened to yours? Are they gonna take care of it again?

Straycat113:

I think you´re right as the Standard Series is probably one of their "Top Sales" but the company has to resolve this quality matters so they could keep their good reputation... At least with their warranty service. :)

New Tele arrived:

Image

The good: Fender replaced my old guitar (+1 year of use) through lifetime warranty in advanced no questions asked. The tele is brand new and came with it´s gig bag, user´s guide, tags and stuff. This one is about the half lighter than my old one! Yeiyah!!! Neck is also very comfortable and smooth. Serial starts with "MX10" (2010)

The bad: The guitar can´t intonate properly, it gets sharp from the first couple of frets on G and B strings while it gets firm notes on the 12th fret, which means, probably the nut has to be setup. It still has the fret marks but not as deep nor near to the top as my older one, except for one but I´m ok with it. The service center let me know that fender said these marks are part of the manufacturing process from their Ensenada´s factory, but my guitar was replaced because the marks went near the top and deeper. They offered me to repair all the problems that the guitar came with "No charge" but I think I will not get obsessed with this and just take it to a local shop and get it fixed (Hopefully) since I find it easier for me.

The verdict: Fender seams to know that they are selling guitars that look cheaper than Squiers but much more expensive though, they take care of their customers through their very kind and excellent Lifetime warranty service, which could be a good plus over other cheaper guitars that back you up for only one year. (Mine was over a year old) The "Standard" Series Telecaster is in my opinion a bad decision if you wanna buy a guitar that is just good, because after dealing with two in a roll, you could tell you are gonna need to spend more than the 500.00 dlls to get a proper "Fender" Tele.

Cheers.

Step 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZVRCMJLnm4#t=1m15s

Step 2) mask off and fretboard around the fret in question, get a guitar string and rub it back and forth across the string where the burr is to mimic actual string use.
