As a beginner i would go for the Classic Series from Mexico.
They just look a little bit better to me....vintage!
Just bought a Classic Player Baja Telecaster....it's awsome.
Even pro's would like this guitar.

I'm a semi-prfessional player and my Tele is a Standard. I had my guitar tech set it up correctly and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm not a big believer in the "gotta have the expensive stuff" to play. A good player can make a piece of crap guitar sound great.

I agree. Im also a semi-pro. Have a 2001 standard. It has endured constant use since. The neck has remained straight n true, the pickups were replaced for a pair of nocasters which stunned the pants off me. This guitar has acompanied me to many after show parties and has always been the last one standing. It is my main guitar and i would not get rid of it for any money...well, maybe a few million. Excellent guitar, and i hear the newer ones are even better, great value.

I have both a made in Mexico standard Tele as well as an American standard and I love them both. For beginners I would recommend the Mexican due to the lower price. It takes awhile for a player to learn which guitar tones he will like and the Mexican Tele is a great well rounded guitar at an affordable price. My first Tele was a Squier Affinity and it was an exceptional sounding, very low priced guitar. That is how I originally became a Tele fan. After that I upgraded to nicer versions. The American will have a better feeling neck with the hand rolled edges, and slightly better electronics. Some people say they cant really tell the difference, but an experienced player will easily see the difference. Like I said they are all great guitars in their respective price ranges. :D

I've felt that the Mexicvan guitars have come a long way. I will say this; I have notice a lot of Mexican Strats with some really bad fret work. I take each guitar on a case by case basis.

I once played a custom shop Strat that was really bad in the neck.

I do love my Muddy Waters Tele.

I'm a working musician and I play my MIM Tele more than many of my others including a USA.
I like the neck, the frets were smaller than the USA version, I do a lot of James Burton style bending and the MIM with it's Top-Load bridge makes it easier.
They are all good guitars, each player has their own feel. I have seen some awesome players and when I play their guitars some I have found for my taste almost unplayable...but they can wail the hell out of them

Definitely! I work with a band at the moment doing sound. I do a little guitar tech too when they need it. Their setup preferences do seem completely irrational to me and so contradictory to my own preferences., but they feel exactly the same about my guitars. It all comes down to personal taste, but i have yet to find someone who doesnt enjoy playin a nicely set up tele. The simple things in life are always the best :)

Hello TheSickness,

My mexico tele's over 10yrs old and
a great player. I'd like to get a new
American one but when I pick it up
and play it, well it'll do just fine.

Cheers.

Brother, whatever you own is the best guitar for the purpose. There is nothing wrong witn the MIM's (especially after a professional set up) the American guitars are great too.

Hi:

My fav Tele is my 1989 MIJ Squier and then I use my 94 MIM Std. I'm also using my 2007 Baja...My bandmate has borrowed my 2004 Hwy 1.
I prefer Fender Japan over anything else, but I really LIKE the MIM series too
