$225 for shipping seems out of line. I can ship most any guitar to Canada and lower 48 for about $35. Why not just man up and admit to your misfortune and take the guitar to a local luthier and have it fixed and pay for it and stop crying and start playing!?!?

All of this is going to ruin the guitars' mojo... if its' not seriously damaged already!

You can probably get a refret for less than the shipping, or just get them dressed. I still don't think that's what's breaking your strings, but I could be wrong. Where do the strings break? Top, Bottom. Middle?

Oh, by the way, a lot of really nice guitars come out of Asia.

he shouldnt have to play it before he buys it. It should be flawless when he gets it. Yes, MIMs are great guitars but there should be nothing wrong with the guitar. there is no excuse.

Dude with any mass produced item there is the possibility that a flawed product will leave the plant. It's a fact.

Let's look at the chain of faulty decision making in this purchase:

1) Bought MIM over MIA (sorry but the MIA QC is more consistent)
2) Bought without playing and inspecting the guitar
3) Bought by a non-player (or they didn't check it out thoroughly)
4) Bought while he is out of the Country and had someone ship it to him

9 times out of 10 this wouldn't have been a problem because Fender makes a great product (especially the MIA and MIM guitars) and takes steps to ensure that things are right when they leave the factory. However, this is one of those times when a flaw slipped by.

If he chose to buy "sight unseen" then it's his own danged fault.

Finally it is how he handles the problem that is most important. Be a grown up, handle your business, don't whine and point fingers and yell "it's not fair".

I'd never ever buy a guitar sight unseen. If you think you should get a perfect guitar, you should, but it usually never happens.
at least thewood1987 gets whats going on and not turning a blind eye to big picture,

as for the rest here's my thoughts,

i'm just amazed how many of you people in here are fender employees,

watching and filtering all the posts, no surprise there !

all i'm doing is putting other unsuspecting fender customers on notice

so they don't have to go thru hassle and perhaps fender can take note

and remedy something that needs fixing,

so sorry the truth bothers you all
in my opinion thewoods1987 remarks (though I may be wrong) but to me I detected an amount of sarcasm in his remarks. so if I were you I wouldn't read to much into it.

and as for the majority on here being Fender employees that may be true but I for one am not employed by Fender (though I wish) and let me tell you a few things about the MIMs.

1) You don't buy sight unseen as well as buying the first one that comes along. When I bought my first MIM Tele I was 6 months or more before I found the one to pull the trigger on because it seemed each one I tried were different then then the last and two months after that one I got a second one which goes to show it some are easier to find then others.

2) As a Canadian citzen I can tell you even though you were told that you could carry it on the plane when all is said and done it's up to security if they want to let you board with it or not.

and this brings me to my last point

What were you thinking not putting it in a hard case if you were flying with it (have you seen how those guys handle luggage)

If you ask me you bought the guitar discovered the faults when you got home and now come to the hard reality that you were in the wrong when it comes to buying "sight unseen" and I don't know who you are seeing to get work done on your guitar but I would think it would be time to find someone else because it seems he's taking you for a ride.

you won't get any sympathy from this guy.
