Hi All, I am new to the website and world of Fender guitars. I recently bought a brand new James Burton signature series tele and i am delighted with it. I have been a fan of his playing for many years and on several occasions have been very fortunate to meet him. The next step is to buy some decent foot pedals for my marshall amp. Any advice on the kinds i need to play more country and rockabilly would be appreciated. Thanks DMc

Congrats on your James Burton sig. He's my favorite tele player.

In my opinion a telecaster through a clean fender is all you need for any type of country.

If your into Burton big time, you should think about trading that marshall in for a fender, a twin or any tube fender for that matter. I don't think you would really need pedals of any type, although burton used some on occasion, MXR Phase 90, Electro-Harmonix Small Stone, Roland Boss chorus, Yamaha Analog Delay. A somewhat clean sound through a fender should be able to nail his tone pretty good, especially with the guitar you have. Remeber, he has a very peculiar picking style (flat pick and finger pick on the middle finger), it might not hurt to learn some of that too, but there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Burton had soo many different tones, he played on nearly everybodies stuff, so I guess it just depends on which of his era's your into. For me it's his Elvis era tone that I like and anytime he's chickin' pickin' is good to hear also.

I'm sure you've already dropped by there, but if you haven't, here's his site, alot of good information:
