Hi jarabolos: that's a pretty and very unusual Tele. Hard to sure from photos, but from the grain it looks like a two piece body has been sawn in half round the middle of its edge. Then stuck back together with that little fillet of pale wood inserted. Can that be right?

If so, I'm guessing it was done to create cavities inside. James Tyler constructs his hollowbody Strat and Tele type guitars that way:

I'm wondering if your Tele is noticeably lighter than usual? If you tap the body, do you hear hollow spaces inside?

Anyhow: a beautiful and interesting Tele. Thanks for posting.

Cheers - C

hey ceri...

thanks for your info...

i heard something similar before i bought it...

i only had pics to go on and bad ones at that but they were good enough to entice me to drive out to Rhode Island to check out this axe in person..

let me say this...first off this thing is chambered and still HEAVY AS HELL!
easily more heavy than most if not all the telecasters i have ever held...its over 9lbs...

i heard that the original unchambered ones came in around 11lbs!

regardless...i took a look at the body again a few minutes ago...its definitely a 7 piece...there is three piece front and three piece back with a maple sliver sandwiched in between...the neck is a one piece though and while i heard it should never warp there is a truss rod in there for good measure im guessing...

after i bought it my luthier told me as he set it up that this was the nicest tele neck he has ever felt...imagine if it was nitro instead of poly!!

the cool features of it are the bigsby..which i am used to now and which no longer gets in the way...and the one off Bill Lawrence bridge pup...the previous owner was a studio player and he swapped the three position switch to a five with the fifth position actiing like a humbucker...the hardest thing to find other than the date (fender told me that they have no record of anything from Japan before 1993...but that it is a legit tele...and that alot of lack of info only signifies its authenticity...how that works i cannot begin to tell you)

there is a push pull knob and i thought it was a mid boost or something along those lines...turns out the previous owner only used the push pull because of the superior wiring harness it had...
go figure

and the bigsby is apparently an original from the late 60 early 70's according to the folks over at TDPRI...

Hi again jarabolos: thanks for all that information, very interesting. It sure is a pretty and unusual guitar!

Can't be certain (obviously), but that neck is very likely finished in urethane. Personally, I'd be glad of that: much harder wearing than nitro, in a part of the guitar where that's what you need.

I've never heard even the most ardent nitro fan claiming that it has any sonic benefits on the neck. It just falls off quicker, which is not what you want on your beautiful guitar.

Glad that Bigsby is wobbling nicely for you. Enjoy that Tele!

Cheers man - C
