Nope. why add another "Artist Model" to an already oversaturated market.

Syd Barrett, are you kidding? For a very brief moment in time he was a minor blip on the radar.

Maybe. I mean Syd Barrett is cool...and while a Signature model might be alright, since he is dead, the only way this could happen is if the Syd Barrett estate, or whoever is in control of whatever he may have left, would have to approve of this...And considering the fact that he was very reclusive for most of his life after Pink Floyd, I have some doubts as to whether or not his family or estate would approve...

If you want a Syd Esquire why not just make one. There are too many Artist Models out now. We don't need more.

It could 'appen surely... http://www.syd-barrett-trust.org.uk/shop/guitars.htm
I can't see the trust standing too firmly in the way. Granted Syd's playing didn't set the world alight, but he was certainly more than just a blip on the radar, as his continued record sales attest. As a guitar wielding icon Syd deserves his place in Fender's history, however, whether the guitar buying public would shell out for such a piece of history is another question. Should there be one? Yes. Will there be one? I doubt it.
Prove me wrong fender!

I say yes cos.. why not? Dont like it? Dont buy it.

I just think they should have done it while Syd was still alive.
But would be nice to see a limited Custom Shop model out ( of the silver Esquire with mirrors). Actually, I've seen a couple handmade ones in the internet before, one of them was for sale in Ebay a couple years ago.

As much as I love Pink Floyd, I can't help but feel that a Syd Barrett esquire would be exploitive. I mean, they could make an esquire based on his specifications and omit the name, in fact, you could do that for any signature series of guitars. The reason why guitar companies don't do that though is because the name has value. It makes money. I would say yes to an esquire with his specifications and no to the use of his name, but I know that will never happen.

I actually like this idea. I think the Syd Barrett Trust Foundation run by Syds sister is a good idea. If this money is donated to a Mental Health Charity then Fender is winning me over. Not all folks who suffered in the 60's and 70's were famous. Some of them are your neighbours and friends and need this type of support. It's a good thing...don't agree? Listen to David Gilmour sing "On The Turning Away" and you'll feel as compelled to support such charitable action as I'm sure David is. It helps an entire nation when we help each other.

Hmm yeah, agree with you.

Let´s all get silver Esquire and glue mirrors on it ourselves! RIP Roger "Syd" Barrett!
