Well i've been playing for about 4 years and im looking into getting a new electric. I need an electric that can give a clear sound and be used for delay/reverb effect songs. Im thinking about getting the Fender Standard Telecaster (not american standard), is there anything you can tell me about this guitar or if i should reconsider?

Well, I own both a MIM Standard & Vintage RI MIA, They're both great guitars that will get you the clear tone your looking for. Tele's "clarity" are different from that of a Strat in that you'll get more of that signature "twang" most of us buy it for. We're talking bridge pu of course; the neck position is quite similar to a Strat tone. You can't go wrong with either a MIM or MIA Tele, however, if you have the budget the MIA is a winner.

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

I would encourage adding a Tele for your guitar collection. I have a MIM Baja. As long as it has a Fender decal on it, it is gonna be fine. Always play a lot of different guitars and make the best choice for you.

My number 1 is a 2004 Fender MIM "Standard" Telecaster with a Duncan Designed humbucker in the neck (stock bridge pickup). It can do pretty much everything and follows me to all my gigs and is on many of my recordings. It's in the thread with all the Tele pics on page 27 I think, with my other Tele.

Every serious guitarist should have at least 1 Tele.

Hello Major Fro,

Those Mexico Tele's are a bulletproof instrument.
My '96 keeps on goin and the new 09's are better.

A bit of advise would be, invest in a hardshell case.
gigbags are only dust protectors.

Best of luck.

Cheers.

The MIM is a great platform for modding and upgrading.
I have two. One of which I've modded to the point that the only thing that are stock are the neck body and pots. The other I turned into a Esquire and I'm happy with both.

The only advice I can give are if you buy lsat years or later is that make sure you try as many as you can because there are some stinkers out there. Can't speak for the newer ones but from what I hear they have improved.

I say go for it! The MIMs are an excellent value. They feel very comfortable and generally play terrific. Should serve your purposes well. But be sure to try the one you buy out beforehand -- you will occasionally run into a dud (as I imagine you would with most guitars...).
