I'm not sure why he used one. He worked with Fender to come up with the design but I don't think it worked out too well.
Fender made them for a while up until around 2000. You may be able to find one used somewhere.

Kurt used a hybrid guitar because for the most part prior to the JagStang, he would often use either a modded Jaguar or Mustang that prior to the grunge trend of the 90s could be found rather cheap in pawn shops and second hand music gear stores....Then after the grunge/Nirvana craze, the price of used of vintage Mustangs and Jaguars went up...for more about how this all came about, check this link out....

My brother got one new for a little under 1k$

Even though KurDt might be your big idol that guitar is not worth looking into, think of it, there might be a reason/reasons it was discontinued

The vibrato/whammy/trem bar is hardly working, the arm can't be fitted and will fall out all the time (and why a vibrato bridge for Nirvanas music?), it won't stay in tune neither

The pickup switches, placed right above the strings is no good if you're playing hard and jumping 'round the stage.. You'll hit them and eventually turn the PUPs off

I have very small hands but even though, the jagstangs short-scale neck is hardly playable beyond the 12 fret

And one more thing, it doesn't sound like kurt (and nothing will , as he clearly didn't have 'a sound', he was smashing and changing guitars constantly, often just to get off the stage again, i've been a huge fan but never came across two just partly identical concert recordings

If you're buying a guitar just because kurt used it I'd look into jaguars, mustangs, jazzmasters (for the normal neck-size) and even strats

I wouldn't call the jagstang a hybrid guitar, more a way of ruining two fine designs already out there

My 2 cents:) It's 100% honest though

He never really used the Jagstang guitar, as he was disappointed with how it turned out, having a typical Mustang bridge instead of a tune-o-matic or the bridge pickup wound as per his requests.

There's a website completely deidcated to the gear Kurt used. As far as guitars, in short, he mainly used Fender Mustangs Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, a Jaguar w/ Dimarzio Super Distortion and Japanese Fender Stratocasters with a Duncan JB in the bridge. He also used a Mosrite on much of Nevermind. Using any of those guitars with a Boss DS-1/DS-2 and a small clone into a clean tube amp will get pretty close to his sound. I forget what he used for Pre-amps, I think Mesas, into Crest power amps.

All that being said, I'd advise you sculpt your own tonal signature, as Cobain's tone, especially distorted (I think due to the DS1/DS2) is nothing to write home about. I used to have a DS1 and they produce TERRIBLE distortion, especially when compared to a overdriven tube amp.

Because Kurt was an A-hole and he thought it was cool. I"m sure you can find them on Ebay.

Good songs but he was s**t. Fantastically expressive but better vocally in that respect. Liked some of his songs, didnt like him. Thought he ended real guitar music with that grunge s**t. Un-tuned in New York was good in parts though.....

The guitar most associated with him is still the Mustang. He barely ever used the Jagstang.

Get a Mustang or a Jaguar with humbuckers ;)
